On Air Wednesday at 9pm, APRIL 30th for an HOUR long much awaited "coming out" Episode.
Reviewed each week by my dear friend Adriane Goff :) Also, don't forget to visit her new page on the net when you get a chance! It's great!
Series4/Episode 25..Season Finale. "MOVING ON" On air WEDNESDAY, MAY 15 at 9.30pm on ABC (US)
Ellen experiences personal and professional upheaval when she moves into her new home and has an honest talk with her boss, Ed..
Adriane's Summary In the last episode of the season, Ellen declares her sexual preference to
her boss who doesn't take kindly to the information and goes to extremes in
keeping her away from his kids, who in the past Ellen once baby-sat for.
Ellen also leaves us wondering if she will continue working at the
bookstore with her homophobic boss. To make matters worse, her best friend
Paige is also having trouble with accepting Ellen's realization about her
sexual orientation. Despite another serious episode, there are two funny
scenes: one involving show and tell with her boss's kids in the classroom
and Paige brazenly undressing in front of Ellen to show how un-uptight she
is with Ellen's lesbianism.. COOL OPENINGS ALERT: Ellen opens the show
and closes this season with The Bee Gees.
Series4/Episode 24 "HELLO MUDDAH, HELLO FADDAH" On air WEDNESDAY, MAY 7 at 9.30pm on ABC (US)
Ellen comes out to her parents.
Adriane's Summary This week's episode leaves Ellen with the dilemma of having to tell her
parents she is gay. When Ellen finally manages to break the news to her
parents, it seems they hardly wanted to know the news and of course, are
shocked their Ellen is not the woman they thought she was. Her father
becomes particularly stressed over the news and won't hear of discussing it
with Ellen. Ellen's mother reluctantly agrees to go to a support group for
gays and their families. After a personal attack on Ellen by one of the
members, Ellen's mother stands up for Ellen and dear old dad also comes
around:) One of the more poignant and serious episodes of the season.
COOL OPENINGS NOTE: Joan Jett and her band perform an electric opening for
Ellen. This week's opening was shot in what was supposed to be 3-D but the
effect was only half-hearted and trust me, you can watch this
without the glasses!:)
Series4/Episode 22&23 "THE PUPPY SHOW" On air WEDNESDAY, April 30 at 9pm on ABC (US)
A season of speculation finally ends when Ellen Morgan (Ellen DeGeneres) reveals a very personal side of her nature, in a special, much-anticipated episode.
Adriane's Summary
This delightful show has Ellen finally discovering herself! Ellen reunites with an old boyfriend who introduces her to his co-worker Susan. Later in the evening he makes a pass at her and Ellen is obviously uncomfortable with this intrusion. Ellen ends up in Susan’s room where both discover they have a lot in common: a lot more than Ellen realizes because Susan admits to Ellen that she is gay. Ellen squirms at this revelation and makes a quick advance for the door. Later Ellen realizes that she and Susan also share some of the same feelings and hurries to tell Susan before she leaves. In a funny and touching scene, Ellen admits to Susan she is gay but doesn’t realize when she leans over at the airport counter, that the microphone is on and comes out to more than just Susan, but the entire airport! Most of Ellen’s friends take the news well but she realizes she’s in love and now wants to continue a relationship with Susan. In a bittersweet scene at the book shop, Susan reveals she is already in a long-term relationship with a woman but both admit that there is something between the two of them. This may be the consolation prize but Ellen realizes later, that she finally has discovered herself and feels wonderful about it...Definitely the best show of the season with a wonderful and hilarious dream sequence, good performances from all the guest stars, and snappy dialogue make this also one of the best Ellen shows ever...COOL OPENINGS ALERT!: No opening. With all the media attention surrounding this show, there was no need for one anyway!:)
Series4/Episode 21 "THE CLIP SHOW PATIENT" On air Tuesday, April 8 at 8.30pm on ABC (US)
Volunteering at a hospital, Ellen tries to regale an incapacitated English patient with memories of her past..
Adriane's Summary
In this episode, which is really more a composite of Ellen Morgan's experiences from past episodes & a spoof on the hit English movie..."An English Patient", Ellen decides to do volunteer work at the local hospital. She meets an "English Patient" whom she is assigned to care for. The poor guy doesn't stand a chance when he tries to answer questions about his life as Ellen keeps interrupting with tales of her own experiences! Tsk. Tsk. Ellen shows her self-centered side in this episode albeit an endearing one.
COOL OPENINGS NOTE: Ellen continues her fascination with 70's rock this season donning an afro wig and clothes from that period while dancing to the music of Boogie Nights.
Repeat of Ep. 8 "ALONE AGAIN NATURALLY" On air Tuesday, April 1st at 8.30pm on ABC (US)

Series4/Episode 20 "REVERSAL OF MISFORTUNE" On air Tuesday, March 4 at 8.30pm on ABC (US)
Ellen's eagerness to support her parents' divorce unexpectedly brings the couple closer together..
Adriane's Summary
Things start getting down to the nitty gritty for Ellen's parents in this episode where they must finally sign their divorce papers. Ellen seems far too anxious to have her parents split and plans a final celebration for them only to have them tell her they haven't even signed or mailed the papers yet! In an act of haste, Ellen drives her parents in the pouring rain and major traffic jam to deliver them in person only to have them argue over which radio station to listen to! The final elevator scene comes to a climax when Ellen's parents conclude that they have been putting off their divorce because they both have been having second thoughts. This leads to kissing, much groping, moaning culminating a long make out scene that drives Ellen to exit the elevator by crawling out the top! COOL OPENINGS ALERT: Ellen dresses in 70's regalia and dances to the opening song with Toni Tennille and Daryl Dragon -- better known as the Captain and Tennille!:) !
Series4/Episode 19 "SECRETS AND ELLEN" On air Wednesday, February 26th at 9.30pm on ABC (US)
After a lifetime of white lies, Ellen comes clean with her hard-to-please grandmother. Meanwhile, Paige treats Spence to a Vegas weekend he'll never forget. The problem is, he winds up with amnesia! Guest starring are Drew Carey as Drew Carey, Brett Butler as Grace Kelly, Wayne Newton as doctor, Eileen Heckart as Grammy..
Adriane's Summary In this episode, Ellen's grandmother comes in to town to visit the family. Ellen's mother has not been totally honest with the grandmother concerning her separation from Ellen's father and his retirement from his law firm. Furthermore, she has told her grandmother that Ellen and Joe are engaged! (It's pretty obvious from this episode where Ellen has inherited her propensity to be a people pleaser). Ellen is both touched and guilt-ridden when her grandmother gives her the wedding band that she inherited from her mother. A family dinner becomes a time for true confessions and it seems everyone has been lying! Apologies around the table are made and all is well by the end of our episode (well, Joe nearly gets smacked for feeling up Ellen but other than that...) :)
COOL OPENINGS ALERT!: Ellen attempts stretching exercises with April Tatro only to fall flat on her butt!
Series4/Episode 18 "HELLO DALAI" On air Wednesday, February 19 at 9.30pm on ABC (US)
Ellen is confronted by Stephen at a spiritual retreat...and Paige, Spence, Audrey and Joe are confronted by a robber..
Adriane's Summary
In this episode, Peter and Ellen decide to attend a New Age workshop to get in touch with their inner selves. Ellen, however, has difficulty in accepting a comment that Peter makes to her during a session when he tells her he feels she is not happy. She reacts by trying to make others who don't even know her tell her they feel she is happy. Oh Ellen! Peter and our Elly have to go through various "tests" such as getting in a hot tub nude to discover their inner child and walking across coals at the end of their training....! By the end of our episode and the workshop, Ellen not only realizes that she has to work on herself to be happy but is the only one who has the nerve to walk across the coals! Go Ellen, go Ellen!:) COOL OPENING ALERT!: Brian Setzer plays his guitar and sings the opening while Ellen strums a big ol' bass.
Series4/Episode 17 "ELLEN'S DEAF COMEDY JAM" On air Wednesday, February 12 at 9.30pm on ABC (US)
Ellen misinterprets a handsome deaf actor.
Myla's Summary
The opening finds Ellen walking through the (juggling)
Flying Karamazov Brothers. It would be pretty difficult to
throw those guys off, but Ellen manages to. It was pretty hilarious!
THE SHOW: Audrey is upset because Mike has broken up
with her, but soon gets over him when one of Peter's
friends, Brian, comes into Buy the Book. ("Holy guacamole! What a fox!") He seemingly ignores Audrey, but Peter comes in and explains
Brian is deaf. He knows him because Peter is an interpreter
for those who can hear. Brian is playing Romeo in L.A.
Deaf Theatre's production of Romeo and Juliet.
Meanwhile, Paige gets a phone call from Matt (Spence knows this
because he was listening to Paige's answering machine but all he
knows is that Matt wants to meet Paige). Matt really only
wants his Grandmother's diamond earrings
he gave her back -- he's getting married. Spence, jealous
at the prospect of losing Paige (she lets him believe Matt is
still in love with her), takes Ellen's advice (buy her
something she's always wanted, sea otter, breadmaker) and spends
the show determined (I'm not giving up without a fight), only
to find out later that Matt is getting married and gets Paige
back in the end, all dressed up he surprises her at a burger joint.
AT THE THEATRE: Peter introduces Brian to Ellen and Audrey at a rehearsal. Audrey convinces Ellen to find out what Brian thinks of her.
In small talk Ellen interprets Brian to be making a pass at her
and doesn't know how to confront Audrey about it, but does,
the next day. She is brutally honest with Audrey and tells her
Brian made a pass at her (blaming it on her
mango conditioner). Audrey doesn't take the news well.
Peter finds himself without his Juliet translator at the premiere
and enlists Ellen to co-translate with him. "Read the text in
front of you, (he tells her) and watch the actors on the stage
and we'll be fine." (so you're now wondering I bet how Ellen
manages this? yes, it was absolutely hilarious!)
The play begins and Ellen and Peter are translating really well.
Ellen begins to "get into" her role, and with one sweeping gesture
of her hand knocks over the lecturn and the script pages go flying
everywhere. The look on Ellen's face is PRICELESS!
Peter tells her to forget the script, just watch them sign..
here's a brief synopsis of Ellen's translation of Juliet's gestures.
(Remember, they had to improvise here by simply watching the
gestures of the actors signing on-stage:)
Ellen (Juliet): Oh..I.. something.. fell on my foot...how can I
hide the pain in my face?.. Do you have Advil or something .. I can put
inside of me... thou are afraid... hmmm...
Peter (Romeo): I take thee at thy word, just call me love and I shall bring you baptized... (maybe Ellen actually made more sense?!!?!)
Ellen (Juliet): You make me sick with your words not knowing what you sayeth.. flies come my way and I try to hit them with my hand, I scream at the fly! I say go! GO!! (the audience is laughing)
Peter (Romeo): Neither my fair lady...(something)...dislike..
Ellen (Juliet): Ha! I say no-no, (Juliet makes this sweeping
gesture with her arms as Ellen translates)
Don't cry for me Argentina (the audience is on the floor now)... I
will not cry for you... Do you hear one last bell to answer? One
last egg to fry on my face (!) with my face with my fist and my
chest I wash my hands... do you care?! (hahahahaha)
Peter (as the Narrarator): ... for never was a tale of more woe
than this of Juliet and her Romeo.
Ellen (adding her 2 cents): .. so g'night folks, that's our show!
(this was by far some of Ellen's funniest work to date)
After the performance, Brian asks Audrey for coffee but she
declines (on account of his "thing" for Ellen). Brian confronts
Ellen and realizes she misinterpreted his saying she had a nice
blouse (he was just making conversation) as he was not really
making a pass at her. Audrey asks Ellen to promise never to let
a man come between them again to which Ellen replied "Oh I can
honestly say that will never happen." =)
The show ends with Audrey and Brian leaving for a date, and Peter coming to crash at Ellen's because he's having a tiff with Garrett.
Series4/Episode 16 "ELLEN UNPLUGGED" On air Wednesday, February 5 at 9.30pm on ABC (US)
Ellen attends a Rock'n'Roll Dream Camp.
Myla's Summary
OPENING SCENE: From behind DJ mixing equipment, dressed in black, Ellen
introduces her opening act in a bad-arse tone:
"Queen Latifah is in the Dom-I-Cile"
"Scratch it up, Queen"
and jams with rapper/actress Queen Latifah.
THE SHOW:
BOOKSTORE: It’s Ellen’s birthday, and as a gift the gang buys her a
ticket to Rock and Roll Dream Camp. Before they depart, Ellen
reminisces from her song journal with Spence, flipping through some of
the songs she wrote: "I’m a Big Phony," "Nobody Likes Me," "Nobody Likes
Me, Part 2," "Johnny Paluzzi Likes Me," "I Was Wrong About Johnny
Paluzzi," and "Nobody Likes Me Part 3." She tells Spence she always
wanted to have a garage band, but they had a carport and seems really
amped about going to "camp."
AT CAMP: "Hey! The room service guy looks just like David Crosby!" to
which the room service guy says (deadpan) "I am David Crosby." (Y’know
how when Ellen gets "that look" like yearight ?! so she replies with..)
"Oh yeah right, and I’m Joni Mitchell and this (referring to her pals)
is Peter, Paul and Mary." (Classic Ellen) =) Crosby explains he’s the
"Rocker in Residence" and that there are "No Rules just be wild, crazy
and rebellious."
REHEARSAL STUDIO: Ellen is alone in the studio, gets that mischevious
look on her face and decides to try the drums. She picks up the sticks
and with "a 1-2-3-4" beats out quite a hilarious number. She then
picks up the tambourines and then does a number with an electric guitar,
which is a riot because the everyone walks in on her while she’s
jamming. The Rocker in Residence tells them they’re going to divide
them up into groups after each of them has a chance to play (Vance
DeGeneres plays one of the guitarists) and Ellen and Spence end up in a
group with 2 others. The legendary Bonnie Raitt and Aaron Neville ask
them if they can join them and jam with them on stage during their
rehearsal to which Ellen replies "We’re just jammin on some smoky tunes
if you’d like to groove on down with us" and the tune they’ve chosen to perform is "Ain’t To Proud to Beg." At first Ellen has ..stage fright? a frog in her throat? (I choked in front of Aaron Neville,
Bonnie Raitt, Spence, Hesch Finkleman and Stanley Peck! she tells Paige as she’s packing to leave. Paige convinces her to stay and have fun
because Rock and Roll is about facing your demons and laughing at them).
They finally settle on a band name ("Everything and the Girl") and for their performance at Campapalooza (the concert =)) Ellen sings the following song with Bonnie and Aaron on backup vocals on kind of a bluesy smoky tune: "When I was little; 5 or 6 or 7 I used to live at home with mah folks (chorus: that’s right) I was scared o’ lizards I was scared o’ spiders I was scared o’ my Mom’s pot roast.. (chorus: don’t cry)
Now that I’m kinda old-ah I know I should be bold-ah but Babee that just aint the case (chorus: no way) I’m scared o’ lookin foolish And tho it may sound foolish I’m scared of gettin punched in the face..
Well I’m scared of bein afraid (hands on hips now) I’m scared of bein afraid I’m scared of bein afraid
(Bonnie) They say the only thing to fear is fear itself (Aaron) But what about food that’s been sitting to long onthe shelf? (Ellen) Well I’m tired of sleepin mah life away I’m crazy for bein insane I’m sorry for apologizin’ but I’m scared of bein afraid and that’s right you heard what I said
My throat’s dry I need lemonade (shakin her head) I don’t wanna eat a grenade I don’t wanna lead a parade (Aaron lets out his signature oooooaaaaaa) and then in a low, throaty voice, Ellen whispers:LOOK AT ME.. I’M SHAKIN.
END: Ellen jams with Bonnie Raitt, Aaron Neville, and I’m pretty sure it was Sheryl Crow (altho her name didn’t appear in the credits) to "Ain’t to Proud to Beg," proving that Elly really can belt out a tune with the best of them. Absolutely hilarious. If ya had a rating system, I’d give it 5 stars!
"PARENT TRAP" On air Wednesday January 29 at 9.30pm on ABC (US)
This show is a repeat.
Series4/Episode 15 "MAKIN WHOOPEE" On air Wednesday January 22 at 9.30pm on ABC (US)
Ellen causes havoc when she gets drunk at a wine-tasting night held by a physician that Spence is trying to impress.
Adriane's Summary
In one of this season's funniest episodes, Ellen attends a party hosted by a physician that her cousin wants to impress. Unfortunately for all the guests, Ellen got quite intoxicated and entertained everyone for the evening! Ellen interupts the doctor's tone deaf wife by removing the microphone from her hand and proceeds to climb around the piano performing "Another Reason for Makin' Whoopie". Ellen returns to the hospital to apologize to the doctor for her behavior and he misunderstands Ellen's intentions and makes a play for her....needless to say, the doctor ended up with a shiner from our dear Ellie! COOL OPENINGS NOTE: Me'shell N'degeocello and cast perform a minimalist version of the opening song....cool but weird:)
