Vincent Mangano was head of one of the three Brooklyn families. He was a member of the old Honor Society. Vincent made his way up the underworld ladder by doing favors for the other bosses. Especially Luciano. Mangano served as a backup gunman in the assasination of Joe Masseria and helped Lucky remove the Mustache Petes after the Castellammarese War. For such favors Luciano made Mangano a member of the Commission. Vincent's Mangano main operation was the Brooklyn waterfront, which he, his brother, and Albert Anastasia controlled. Mangano made the waterfront His family's main income producer. Mangano and his associates would threaten to prevent cargo from being loaded or unloaded if the shiping company didn't pay a tribute. Vincent would force workers to pay a fee for everyday they worked on the docks. Because of this, the Mob knew exactly what was on each ship and could choose what to steal. Other operations Mangano was involved with included running numbers, bootlegging, and drug smuggling. Mangano's downfall came in the form of Albert Anastasia. Anastasia was Mangano's underboss and didn't agree with many of Mangano's desicions. Mangano would grow tired of Anastasia's lack of respect and phyisically attack his younger and stronger underboss. Anastasia would constanly get the better of Mangano. One day Anastasia learned of Mangano's plan to kill him. So instead one day the Mangano brothers came up missing. No one knows for sure who was responsible for the murder of Vincent Marangano. But what is certain is that after Mangano was killed, Albert Anastasia took control of the Family.
