The Fool by Leann Womack
You don't know me
But I know who you are
Mind if I sit down
Do I look familiar
If I don't well I should
I'm sure you've seen me around
I'm sure you've probably heard my name
Though we've not been introduced
I'm the fool in love with the fool
Who's still in love with you.
If you've got a minute
I'll buy you a drink
I've got something to say
It might sound crazy
But last night in his sleep
I heard him call out your name
This ain't the first time
He's done it before
And it's hard to face the truth
I'm the fool in love with the fool
Who's still in love with you.
I know love is a fragile thing
And I'm trying hard to make it last
But it ain't easy holding on to my dream
When he's holding on to the past
Just one more thing before I go
I'm not here to put you down
But you don't love him
And that's a fact
Girl, I've seen you around
But you hold his heart in the palm of your hand
And it's breakin' mine in two
I'm the fool in love with the fool
Who's still in love with you.
I'm the fool in love with the fool
Who's still in love with you.
The Fool by Me
The static filled radio station played softly somewhere in the distance, it's
song barely audible and seemingly out of place on the warm summer breeze.
You don't know me
But I know who you are...
HM Murdock leaned against the wooden door frame of the small South American
orphanage. Shoving his hands into his pants pockets, he looked across the
dusty courtyard and saw his best friend speaking to the woman they'd come to
help.
...I'm sure you've probably heard my name
Though we've not been introduced...
Murdock knew that although she'd only met them the day before, the nun,
formerly Leslie Becktal, felt as if she knew something about the A-Team.
Through newspaper clippings she'd followed along with them through the last
fifteen years. But no one, not even Hannibal, Face, or BA, knew about the
secret that he kept burried deep within himself.
...I'm the fool in love with the fool
Who's still in love with you...
The secret would stay his alone until he gathered up enough courage and he
felt he could tell Face about how much he loved him without fear of the other
being repulsed by the thought.
...It's hard to face the truth...
God, was it hard to face the truth. Murdock knew that Face was still in love
with this woman, who had left him without another word fifteen years before.
...But it ain't easy holding on to my dream
When he's holding on to the past...
The captain often wondered what it would be like if he and Face were to have
a life together. But he knew now that as long as he still loved Leslie, Face
could never love anyone else, and that his dream would never become a reality.
...You hold his heart in the palm of your hand
And it's breakin' mine in two...
Murdock watched as Leslie accepted the black box containing the small
fraternity pin and hugged Templeton Peck to her. He closed his eyes
momentarily, wishing he was in her place.
...I'm the fool in love with the fool
Who's still in love with you...
"Captain," Hannibal called from the door on the other side of the room.
"It's time to go."
Murdock took one last look across the courtyard in time to see Face and
Leslie say their final goodbye.
As he turned toward Hannibal to go, he heard the last few words of the song
and tried to hide the sadness he felt.
Hannibal glanced out the door to see what Murdock had been looking at. He
saw Face turn and give Leslie one last wink before heading off toward the
Team's car. He turned toward the captain. "Unrequited love sucks, doesn't
it?"
Murdock only nodded and walked out the door, leaving the colonel alone in the
room.
...I'm the fool in love with the fool
Who's still in love with you.
