One of the most dangerous things that can happen to a child
is to kill or torture an animal and get away with it.anthropologist Margaret Mead

As FBI Supervisory Special Agent Alan Brantley says:
"(Animal cruelty) is not a harmless venting of emotion in a healthy
individual; this is a warning sign that this individual is not mentally
healthy and needs some sort of intervention."

Linking the Circles of
Compassion Web Ring Home page

This web ring's purpose is to raise awareness about "the link" between human violence and animal cruelty. This web ring is open to all web sites that deal with child abuse, domestic violence, animal cruelty, and/or provide services to victims (both 2 and 4 legged), We especially welcome personal home pages with survivor's stories.

This ring and the truths its based on has been inspired by the book "Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Animal Abuse, Linking the Circles of Compassion for Prevention and Intervention" edited by Frank R. Ascione and Phil Arkow. This new book can be purchased online at: Purdue University Press

This effort is based upon these truths:

Cowardly acts of aggression against vulnerable members of the family are power and control issues. Whether the victims have two legs or four seems to be as much a matter of opportunity as anything else.

Acts of aggression against any member of a family endanger all in the household and put others in the community at risk as well. (Animal cruelty/torture/abuse was practiced by all recent school shooters before they turned on their parents and peers).

Animal abuse is an early warning sign of serious problems in that family and with the perpetrator. It is easy to loose sight of the big picture. Child abuse, animal abuse and domestic violence all have the same source. Violence is violence, abuse is abuse -- it does not matter who the victim is.
