STATUES OF LIBERTY AND JUSTICE

Amarantha Françoise Dyuaaxchs

The first has a flaring flame raised high,
A collection of books under her arm,
And loose, flowing robes,
Worked by the French in greenest bronze.

The second, left to this generation's Americans,
Probably wears few clothes or none.
We see her face; she is gold and silver,
Copper, brass, pewter, and white and black marble.
She should be a typical Justice, with bared sword,
And scales in her hand. But that sword should
Bind itself at her side, not be the flames counterpart.
Opposite light must be Justice's blindfold,
Pulled free and raised high,
Ready to be blown away in the wind of humankind.
