Legion Historian - visit 2Lt Geoffrey A. Pocock's site

Origin
The Legion of Frontiersmen was founded in 1904 in England by Roger Pocock, a New Zealand born adventurer.

Early Days
Lena Ashwell OBE, a popular acress and sister of Pocock was instrumental in obtaining the patronage of influential people. Members numbered in tens of thousands throughout the Commonwealth, and contributed to intelligence gathering for the Ministry of Defence. Some examples of early history.

First Troops in Action During WWI
Legion members joined the Belgium forces in the first action of WWI. As a result, King Albert made Legion members his personal body guards and awarded Legion members the Belgium medal, which all Legion members are entitled to wear. Later, the Legion formed the 25th (Frontiersmen) Battlion - Royal Fusiliers, which served in British East Africa, where Melbournian, Lt Darnell won the VC. The Legion is affiliated with several regiments.
