This branch of my family was, for a long time, a mystery to me. Then in December 1999, I made contact with the wife and children of Charlie Mildredge Whitten, son of Dick and Annie Whitten. Charlie's daughter, Darlene Whitten Harris, has been so wonderful to share with me the pictures of Dick and Annie, their marriage license, and Annie's parents. Thanks Darlene! In 2000, I made contact with Sherri Parks, granddaughter of Birdie Whitten Smith, daughter of Dick and Annie Whitten. Sherri shared with me the pictures of Birdie and Jackson Smith, their marriage license, and the group photo of Sherri's parents James and Mary Ioma Smith with Katie and Dick Whitten, Jr. Dick Jr was the son of Dick Whitten and his second wife Ella Philpott. Thank you Sherri! If anyone else has pictures of members of Dick's family or the families of Dick's siblings, and would be willing to share them with me, I would be honored to include them here in this album! |
