After returning home to the hotel, Brenda found a letter from Miranda waiting for her. After reading it, she learned that Miranda had told Jax about Brenda and Sonny making love. She immediately went to Jax and asked him why he hadnt told her he knew before. Jax responded emotionally, telling her he knew she loved Sonny. Brenda told him she was sorry, she had really wanted to love Jax the way she loved Sonny. They shared a sad, tender good-bye and then Brenda left. She went to the docks where she found Sonny and told him of her discussion with Jax. She admitted her love for Sonny and the two shared an intense reunion. Then Sonny took Brenda to a piece of land out in the country and told her he had bought this land right after their time together in the catacombs. He told her it was his dream to live there with her. They shared a sweet embrace that turned into passionate love-making. 
Returning to town, Sonny and Brenda went to GH after Jason informed them that Dorman was trying to skip town. Brenda came across Rebecca, the nurse who had been helping Dorman, and told her that Dorman would pay for his misdeeds. Later, Emily is readmitted to the hospital in a catatonic state and Brenda tried to get her to respond. When she gets no response, she gave Emily a locket from Lois. When Emily came up missing, Brenda found the Q's and informed them that not only was Emily missing from her room, but Dorman was somewhere in the hospital. While searching for Emily, Dorman is found in the morgue, murdered. At first Jason is arrested for the murder, then Sonny is suspected which infuriated Brenda. Sonny told her he wasnt worried and she needed to accept that part of his life that made him a target. Later, Taggert arrived and demanded a hair sample from Sonny. Brenda arranged with Jason to switch Sonny's sample with a sample of her own hair in order to prove that the police are trying to frame Sonny. Jason wasnt happy about Brenda's plan but agreed to go along with it. Brenda paniced when the police returned and informed them that the hair samples matched. She told them it couldnt possibly match as it wasnt even Sonny's hair, it had been her's. Sonny became very mad that she had done that but they work it out. Taggert informed them both that they had to come in and have new hair samples taken. Back at the hotel, Brenda and Sonny spent the morning talking. Brenda kidded Sonny about his possessiveness concerning his kitchen, and Sonny told her that after the Nurses' Ball he would take her to his place and let her have free rein. Brenda asked him if he was ready for that, considering that the penthouse was once Lily's home. He told her that he had needed time to adjust but he was ready.
Brenda and Sonny attended the Nurses' Ball together and enjoyed the festivities, unaware that the police had proof that one of the hairs found on Dorman's body matched Brenda's. Taggert and Garcia started a search and soon discovered a bloody scalpel in the trunk of Brenda's car. They then came to the Ball and took Brenda in for questioning. At the police station, Brenda is told about the scalpel that was found in her car and she vehemently denied killing Dorman. When Sonny learned that Brenda had been taken in, he rushed to the station and demanded that the police release her. Taggert admitted that the evidence they had was circumstantial and let her go. Sonny vowed to find out who was framing Brenda and then took her home. After they left, the police got a phone call from a disguished voice, who told them that the evidence they were seeking was in the trash outside the PC Hotel. Looking thru the trash, Garcia and Taggert found bloody clothes and Garcia recalled seeing Brenda in those clothes the night of the murder. Brenda and Sonny argued about her part in the investigation of her being framed, but Sonny ended it by showing Brenda the plans he had had drawn up for their dream house. They discuss their future together but were interrupted by the police, who had arrived to arrest Brenda. At the station they show her the mounting evidence against her. Sonny concocted a plan with Jason to get Brenda out of the station. Jason went up to Mac and apologized to him for what he was about to do, then started a fight and slugged him. When the police went to break up the fight, Sonnytold Brenda to run and she snuck out of the station thru a window. Sonny stayed in the station while Jason left to get Brenda and take her to a safehouse. As they were sneaking off, Mac stopped them and demanded to know what was going on. Jason and Brenda asked him if he could really believe that Brenda was a murder and when Mac agreed that he couldnt see that, Jason told him that Brenda was being framed. Mac agreed to not say anything about Brenda's escape and let them go. After learning about Brenda's arrest and escape, Jax went to Mac and told him he would pay him anything if Mac would find Brenda and prove her innocence. Mac agreed and went to the PCPD evidence room to check what they had against her. Among the items he found a tiny orgami animal made out of tin foil.
In an attempt to throw the cops off his tail, Sonny feigned a serious illness and was rushed to the hospital. Once in the ambulance, Sonny traded places with one of the drivers and Jason took his place on the gurney. At the hospital, he slipped away unnoticed and rushed to Brenda. He tried to comfort a jumpy Brenda and told her a few details about the Dorman case before having to return to town. Back in PC, he hid in the back seat of Taggert's car and when Taggert got in, Sonny held a gun to his head and demanded to know why he was setting Brenda up. When Taggert laid out all the evidence against Brenda, Sonny realized that Taggert wasnt the one behind the setup. Knowing that Taggert had a real reason to arrest him, Sonny knocked him out and went back to Brenda. Sonny told her that Taggert wasnt the one setting her up and when Brenda asked him who else it could be, Sonny couldnt answer. Outside, an unknown man watched them and after placing gum in his mouth, he started to fold the tin foil wrapper. The police raided the safehouse on a tip from the Tin Man but Sonny and Brenda escaped. Luke helped them leave town by arranging the use of a yacht. They headed down the eastern seaboard while Jason continued the investigation in PC. When Jason's investagation lead him too close, the Tin Man shot him. The clues lead Sonny to believe that the answers lay in Florida and he decided they needed to leave the boat. They sneak onto a truck going their way but end up having to sneak out of it and hitchhike to Tiger Key, Florida.
Once in Tiger Key, Brenda and Sonny piece together all the clues and go to a house that seems to be the center of the Tin Man's operations. Once there, they were captured and introduced to the man behind it all - Rivera, Lily's supposedly dead father. Rivera blames Sonny and Brenda for the loss of his daughter and told them they were going to pay with their lives. They manage to escape and flee into the swampy area around the house but are quickly captured and returned to Rivera. Once more in front of Rivera, Sonny taunts him with his role in Lily's death. Rivera left them alone to contemplate their impending deaths and Sonny took the oppurtunity to ask Brenda to marry him. Brenda was thrilled and told him that she had thought it would never happen and then told him of course she would marry him. As the Tin Man and the others returned, alarms sounded. Jax and V had arrived, having followed Sonny and Brenda. In the ensuing scuffle, Rivera died but the Tin Man escaped. Sonny followed him while Brenda thanked Jax for rescuing them. When Jax said something about Sonny putting her in danger, Brenda told him that she chose to go with Sonny even though she knew it was dangerous. Out in the swamp, Sonny chased the Tin Man until he fell into a patch of quicksand. Sonny refused to help him out of it, even though V objected. Back at the house, Brenda found a video tape of the Tin Man confessing to Dorman's murder. The Florida police told them that all the charges were being dropped and Sonny and Brenda celebrate their freedom while Jax looked on glumly. Sonny thanks Jax for his help, Brenda thanks V and they all return to Port Charles where Taggert tried to hassle Sonny but Dara told him that the case was closed and Sonny and Brenda were both cleared of all charges. Back in Florida, the Tin Man pulled himself out of the bog and made his way to PC with plans of revenge.
