The Nurse's Ball began and Jax and Brenda attended together. Brenda, Karen, Lucy and Dara performed to the song "Big Spender" and in the middle of it Sonny walked in with Jason. At the end of the number the girls went around to the tables to collect hats that had donations in them. Sonny dropped a large amount of cash into one and held it out to Brenda but she made no move to collect it.
Seeing what Sonny was trying to do, Dara stepped in and took the hat from Sonny while Brenda went to Jax. She told Jax it didnt matter that Sonny was there, he meant nothig to her anymore. Later, Jax and Brenda discussed the situation Jerry had gotten into with the mob. Brenda was supportive of Jax as he realized that Jerry was still lying to him.
Jax went to Sonny at the warehouse and asked Sonny to help him settle Jerry's situation with Carlos, the mob boss. He had the money to pay off Jerry's debt. Sonny told Jax to take the money to Carlos himself and Jax retorted that Sonny's refusal was just his way of trying to get even because Jax was going to marry Brenda. Suddenly a bomb exploded in the warehouse, trapping Jax and Sonny in the office. Outside Robin, Jason and Brenda gathered and awaited news of Jax and Sonny. When the firemen said that no one could have survived the blaze Robin tried to get Brenda to go home but she refused, saying she knew Jax was okay. Just as she gave in and started to let Robin and Jason lead her away, Jax and Sonny emerged from the burned-out building. Brenda turned and raced towards them, both whom looked hopeful that he'd be the one she ran to. Sonny watched with sadness as Brenda raced past him and threw herself in Jax's arms.
Days later, Brenda confessed to Robin that she might be pregnant and was worried about how Jax would take the news. Robin told Brenda to let Jax know soon. The first time Brenda tried to tell him, Jax's talk about the life they were going to have after they were married put her off. But later she got up the nerve to tell him what she suspected. Jax was stunned at first but quickly became excited about the possibility. Brenda told him she was worried about what kind of mother she would be considering her own mother and Jax reassured her that she was not her mother and she would be a wonderful mother to her own kids. Brenda warmed to the idea of parenthood herself and agreed to see the doctor about a test right away. When the results came back negative, Brenda and Jax both were disappointed but Jax comforted Brenda with the thought that they had plenty of time to have a family, and they should enjoy the time they had together alone first.
At the Grill a woman started chatting with Jax and told him she saw how a woman could fall for him, namely her daughter. She told Jax that she was Veronica Barrett, Brenda's mother. Jax didnt believe the woman who proceded to tell him how she left when Brenda was 4. Jax agreed to listen to her and then asked what Veronica wanted with Brenda after all this time. Veronica told him that she realized that the only real connection she had was with her daughter - someone she didnt know. Jax told her that he could be her biggest ally or her worst enemy and agreed to lead her to Brenda only after a background check. Jax also warned her that he'd make sure she regreted it if she hurt Brenda. After Jax got back a report confirming that Veronica was Brenda's mother he demanded that she meet him in the hotel lobby. Jax wanted to know what Veronica's agenda was. Upstairs in the penthouse, Brenda found the file on Veronica and was stunned. She went downstairs where Jax and Veronica were still arguing about Brenda. Brenda confronted her mother and Jax left after telling Brenda that he knew about Veronica for a bit. Brenda demanded to know why Veronica was back and why she left in the first place. Veronica tried to explain what happened back then but Brenda told her not to try to play games with her. Veronica said she would leave if that was what Brenda wanted but Brenda told her she wanted her to stay purely to answer questions. Upstairs, Jax apologized to Brenda for keeping the knowledge of Veronica from her but Brenda said she understood his reasons.
