shaken baby syndrome
Charged with killing Rachel
is Doris J. Ravenscraft, who along with her husband, were in the process
of adopting her. Rachel had lived with the Ravenscraft's for eight months
and the day she was injured witnesses said she appeared healthy. She died
two days later and the couple disappeared after saying Rachel had fallen.
Ravenscroft has been charged
with involuntary manslaughter for the head injury that killed Rachel and
assault for breaking her legs two to three months before her death.
Both are felonies and each carry a maximum of seven years in prison and
a $5,000 fine.
