Evening Prayer

“O send out your light and your truth;
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling.” - Psalm 43:3

“I call upon you, O Lord;
come quickly to me;
give ear to my voice when I call to you.
Let my prayer be counted as incense before you,
and the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice.” - Psalm 141:1-2

Almighty and most merciful God, I have strayed from your ways like a lost sheep.
I have followed too much the desires of my own heart.
I have offended against your holy laws.
I have left undone those things which I ought to have done,
and yet I have done those things which I ought not to have done.
O Lord, have mercy on me.
Spare me as I confess my faults.
Restore me in my penitence, according to your promises declared in Christ Jesus my Lord.
And grant, most merciful God, for his sake,
that I may live a godly, righteous, and holy life,
going on to perfection in love
to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on me,
forgive me all my sins through my Lord Jesus Christ,
strengthen me in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep me in eternal life. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Lord, open my lips. And my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

PSALTER

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. Amen.
Alleluia.

“El Shaddai, El Shaddai, El Elyon na Adonai;
age to age you’re still the same by the power of the name.
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkahmka na Adonai,
I will praise and lift you high, El Shaddai.” - Michael Card/John Thompson, 1981

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Lord Jesus, stay with me, for evening is at hand and the day is past.
Be my companion in the way, that I may know you as you are revealed
in Scripture and in the breaking of bread.
Grant this for the sake of your love. Amen.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union;
where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that I receive;
it is in pardoning that I am pardoned;
and it is in dying that I am born to eternal life. Amen.

“The Lord’s servant must not quarrel;
instead, he must be kind to everyone,
able to teach, not resentful.
Those who oppose him he must gently instruct,
in the hope that God will give them a change of heart
leading to a knowledge of the truth.” - 2 Timothy 2:24-25

“Now to him who by the power at work within me is able to accomplish
abundantly far more than all I can ask or imagine,
to him be all glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus
to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” - Ephesians 3:20-21

May the blessing of God, the fountain of living water,
flow within me as a river of life.
May I drink deep of God’s wisdom. May I never thirst again.
May I go through life refreshing many, as a sign of healing for all;
through the One who is Life eternal,
my Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
