Life aboard a spaceship can be VERY BORING. I should know, having been on many an intergalactic mission. You're stuck with the same people in a tiny enclosed space for long periods of time, and most ships don't carry much in the way of entertainment. That's why one crew member aboard the ship "Solar Wind" discovered that human crops make excellent drawing surfaces. He passed this on to his friends, and soon every ship that passed by had to "leave their mark", so to speak, on human crops. One day one of the people of Earth saw a spaceship depart after making its picture. This was soon all over the papers and tabloids, and the members of that ship were greatly amused by the uproar it caused. They and subsequent ships started to let themselves be seen just to watch the people of earth react. Some even staged "crash sites" and circulated rumors of alien abductions. Unfortunately, some people went so far as to create false memories of those abductions, causing great trauma and stress to the "abductee". This is a violation of the Universal Law and the offenders have been punished accordingly.
While some ships tried to create disturbances, another group of "aliens" posed as humans and tried to cover it up. These people only seemed to make humans believe even more. They came to be known as "Men In Black". They went to the houses of people who had been "abducted" or had seen a "UFO", and to the "crash sites", all in the purpose of making people believe that nothing had happened. It has not worked. "Aliens" are more popular than ever.
