The Redeye Net held it's annual picnic in Potato Creek State Park at North Liberty, Indiana on September 16th, 2001. The members and friends met at the picnic shelter between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM and the grill was lit shortly after 11:00 AM. The coals began to glow and the cooks took control of the grill. It wasn't long there after that we all began to enjoy the fruits of their labor. There was steak, hamburgers, hotdogs and Italian sausages grilled over the bed of coals. Multiple types of pasta salad, potato salad, baked beans, potato chips, macaroni and cheese and various desserts that was brought to share with the group. Beverages of all kinds was present if there was a thirst for something it was quite possible that you was able to have it.
You could enjoy conversation with anyone you pleased after the meal as we did and mingle among members to visit and become friends in person as we have done via the radio. Some new faces was there this year and then some familiar faces was again in the group. Members enjoyed a great day the weather was beautiful. We held the drawing for door prizes. Some of these being an angle grinder, digital tire pressure gauge, several padded cell phone or handheld radio covers, a battery booster ( these were donated by Bill DeSalvo W9OQW ) and 2 cd's of Amateur Radio antenna and propagation programs ( donated by Allen Bare KC8CLJ ). Other door prizes were a Midland Weathermax radio, a fall colored flowers floral arrangement and an emergency 12 volt trouble light with a pair of gloves.
Then a 50/50 drawing was held netting a total of $85.00, the winner of the drawing was Barb Powell N9WAG's wife. She donated her half of the winnings back to the Redeye Net for next years picnic.........Thanks Barb :)
