Insulin vs Glucagon

Insulin Glucagon
"The Villain" "The Hero"
Encourages the Storage of Fats. Encourages the Burning of Fat for Energy
Encourages the Production of Cholestrol Encourages the Use of Cholestrol
and slows down Cholestoral Production
Slows down the Kidneys... thus leaving more Salt and Fluid in your blood steam. With all this extra "stuff" in your blood stream, your Blood Pressure increases. Prompts the Kidneys to remove Salt and Fluid from your blood stream. With all this extra stuff being removed, your Blood Pressure decreases.
Encourages the growth of Smooth Muscles over your vessles. This decreases the passage way for blood to flow... thus increasing blood pressure. Encourages the breakdown of Smooth Muscle over your vessles. Thus making more room for your blood to flow... and decreasing your blood pressure.
Burns Glucose (sugar) for Energy Burns Fats for Energy
Insulin Levels are increased by eating Charbohydrates (such as grains and sugars) There is no easy way to increase Glucagon. All you can do is have more of a balance between your charbohydrates (sugars/grains) and your proteins (meats).

The American Diet is basically 46% Charbohydrates and 11% Protein. As you can tell, there is a big difference between those two levels. Since there is such a big difference, that also means that there is a big difference between Insulin and Glucagon. People who are eating the "standard" high Charbohydrate Diet have elevated levels are Insulin which causes all of the negative effects listed below.

70%-80% of the Cholesterol in your blood is produced by your body. It's caused by digesting Charbohydrates (sugars / grains). Only 20%-30% of the Cholesterol in your blood is in there because you ate Foods high in Cholesterol. Therefor, by going on a High-Carbo, low-cholesterol/fat diet... you are actually increasing the factor that creates 80% of your cholesterol and decreasing the factor that creates 20% of your cholesterol.
Does that make any sence? Increasing the 80% Factor and Cutting the 20% factor? Of course it doesn't. That is why a High-Carb, low-fat diet is like putting out a fire with gasoline. All you are doing is adding to the problem. Infact, most people can consume Unlimited Amounts of Cholesterol without significantly increasing their Cholesterol Levels.

In Conclusion that is why you should eat a diet with almost equal percents of Carbos, Protein and Fat. Something like 34% Protein, 33% Carbos, and 33% Fat.
