Dr. Lang's Unspoken Last Words

Dr. Eric Lang desperately tried to take in enough breath to record all of the stipulations of the experiment but in vain. His cryptic message historically relayed only one certain fact. "Julia, if Adam dies, then Barnabas will be inflicted with the curse once again."

Poor Dr. Lang, though he tried his best, he couldn't finish his last statement. If he could have, it would have sounded like this:

"But Julia, if Barnabas dies before Adam, Adam will inherit Barnabas' vampirism."

In the drawing room of the old house, there was a stirring debate going on between Stokes, Dr. Julia Hoffman and Barnabas Collins. Stokes was complaining about how overly decorated the House by the Sea was.

Barnabas rolled his eyes. "We'll discuss your aesthetic tastes at another time perhaps." Swiftly, he returned to the proposed plan."I should have no problem giving Eve the hypodermic needle and killing her as she sleeps." Barnabas state emphatically.

Julia was worried. "I think we should go over this plan one more time. Now,I'll be tardy because I'm trying to treat Elizabeth's death disorder. What time should I walk in here?"

"How about ten thirty?" Stokes offered. "That will give Barnabas plenty of time to kill Eve and then come back afterwards." He turned to the former vampire and said, "I'll leave the keys in my car for you."

Barnabas stopped short. "There is driving involved in this plan?" He inquired slowly, clearly anxious.

Stokes'eyes widened. "Well naturally under the circumstances I assumed..."

Julia shook her head with embarrassment. "Professor Stokes, Barnabas is a nineties man. A seventeen nineties man!" She stuttered. "He can't drive!" She whispered in anguish.

"I'm afraid you're just going to have to teach him Julia." Stokes commanded. "Timing is critical to all this. I'd teach him myself but after I've had a good hunk of cheese at night, I'm rather unpleasant for the rest of the evening."

Julia regarded her pupil ruefully as she thought about the railless, mountainous spiraling terrain that separated the Old House from the House By the Sea. She shuddered to think of the challenges that the driving lesson would present.

Barnabas heartily agreed with Stokes. Julia would have to teach him to drive.

An aged Julia entered the drawing room at exactly ten thirty P.M. She loved Barnabas, but teaching him to drive tried her patience to no end. She greeted Nicholas Blair with as much aplomb as she could muster and then addressed the former vampire.

"Barnabas, Mrs. Stoddard insists on seeing you now."

It was the moment of truth. Could Barnabas drive solo to The House by the Sea?

As the engine turned, the car bucked and jumped repeatedly as Barnabas plowed straight through the drawing room at Collinwood. Somehow the brakes just weren't cooperating. After demolishing the French doors, the car careened through the iron gate and the endless paths where blueberry patches once grew.

This isn't so bad, He thought to himself. I should be at the House by Sea in short order.

What Barnabas hadn't anticipated was the elk standing mesmerized in front of his blaring high beams. It sent the car, Barnabas and all, straight over Widows Hill.

Adam, usually a sound sleeper, woke in the middle of the night with an incredible, unquenchable thirst. "I am thirsty!" Adam remarked. "But for what?"

He rose from his bed and descended the staircase.

In the same instant, Angelique returned from a totally unsuccessful evening of potential yet fruitless bloodlettings. Whenever she felt her prey close at hand, a friend, family member or signifigant other entered the room foiling her plans. 'Oh well,' she thought. 'Atleast I have the solace of my coffin.'

As she picked her way through the darkness, Adam spied her. Just looking at Angelique, he realized what he was thirsty for.

In record speed, he attached himself to her jugular vein against her muffled protestations.

The End
