Tony and Robin then left, making way for Aron Eisenburg.
Aron is very passionate, and makes it quite clear that he feels strongly about giving something back to the fans for their support. If he were religious he'd make a great fire and brimstone preacher! (Hey, there's a casting idea!)
Aron introduced himself by talking about how he had never got the idea of the British Parliament having someone called 'Speaker of the House' who never really speaks except to say 'Order'. Good point that, come to think of it…
He also said he would be glad to work on DS9 - one of the few.
Q: Paramount will be losing their cash cow with Spiner/Stewart doing their last films. Would he do Nog if they asked him?
Definitely! He loved playing him. The character grew so much.
Q: Any other character?
No.
Aron went on to talk about why, when he signs autographs he always adds the phrase 'follow your dreams'. First he asked the audience to put up their hands if they were doing what they really wanted to in life. Only a couple of people did. He asked them what they did - I remember one was a vet (that's an animal doctor over here) He asked us why not?
Apparently he feels very strongly about this. He told us how when he was 17 he had a kidney transplant. As a kid he was made fun of because of his size. It generally sucked on a female standpoint… Someone suggested acting. He had no real interest, but he tried it and loved it, partly because it was an asset to be small. He was 18 at the time but looked 11. It's not just his size; he also has a baby face.
He doesn't know if in 4 years time his kidney might reject and he might go on dialysis. People are always saying 'I'll do this if that doesn't happen'. In that case it won't happen (you won't get to do the things you want to). He's now 15 years post transplant.
Success is memories. When he dies he'll keep that with him.
So that's why he always signs 'Follow your dreams'. It doesn't mean sacrificing integrity or neglecting your responsibilities. But go after what you want - make a difference to yourself and to the world.
He also told us about one time he agreed to write something different for someone. When he asked them what they said 'I have no idea', so since he couldn't think of anything either that's exactly what he put!
Q: When Nog got into the academy did he think he'd be written out?
Exactly! When he got the script/heard about it he freaked out. Until 'What You Leave Behind' he thought every episode might be his last. Rick Berman called him into his office. He said he'd heard he thought he was off the show. Then Berman told him 'We love you, love your work, if anything this will bring more work.' It was true.
He didn't dislike going to the academy. 'Heart of Stone' was one of his favourite episodes, especially working with Avery: he was there, right there. Lifting up - one of those acting moments. I think he said it was Avery who pointed out to him that Nog would probably have more to do, because he was now part of the solution to the show: Starfleet.
Q: How come Nog got into the academy so easily when Wesley Crusher didn't?
He's smarter.
Q: The episode where he loses his leg…
He had a lot of trouble doing that episode, because he found it very hard to cry, but he finally accomplished it. In the end he couldn't stop crying. He didn't like the way it was cut though. Perhaps it was from two different takes, because in one shot he's dry eyed and then suddenly he's crying.
Q: How will Nog cope with Ferengi values in Starfleet?
He already strays from the path - he's friends with Jake, growing up on a space station…
Q: Be honest, how do American fans compare to British ones?
European fans are younger, there are under 25's, which there aren't really in the states. Also thinner. He's not saying we all have to be thin though. But America is very fast food orientated. There's a dichotomy in American culture between that and an obsession with health food, non-smoking restaurants etc. 'You guys seem to party much more'.
