The Auction

The auction was a bit of a mixed bag, as such auctions often are. It was run in great style by Lolita, Max, Chase and Aron. One thing there was plenty of was pre-signed photos, but they weren't that popular. A photo of Tuvok and Neelix signed by Tim and Ethan went for about £25, and they threatened to tell them! Well, personally I prefer to get my autographs myself, especially when the actors in question should be over later in the year. And I guess I wasn't the only one… More successful, but not successful enough in my opinion, was the auction of a Voyager Wrap Party Glass Bowl, which went for £250 I think. Me and James nearly joined forces to put a bid in, but while we were debating the bidding closed. I doubt we would have got it, but we might have pushed the bidding higher. Chase looked pretty pissed off (maybe it was her bowl? They didn't actually say), and I don't blame her. It should have gone for more. I just hope whoever got it is someone who will treasure it, and couldn't have afforded it if it hadn't been a bargain.

High points included Max showing off the sale items: he'd bumble up the hall with them, sometimes carrying on when the bidding was over, and then having to run back. Definitely Rom style, and it reminded me a little of Stan Laurel. They were also taking pictures of the stars holding the items, then projecting them onto the big screen. They'd just taken one of Chase holding something, but only flashed it up briefly. Those who'd seen it tittered…it was flashed up again…howls of laughter, with Chase looking around wondering why the previous picture was still on the screen. Finally the technician let her see it too: which brought on a display of mock outrage from her. Though she'd looked immaculate all weekend, by some miracle he'd managed to catch a bad shot of her: with her eyes mid-blink and half lidded so she really looked drugged! To her credit she couldn't help laughing too.

Other items: a collector's edition of the script for the final episode of DS9 with a black cover, and some of the props from 'The Ferengi Family Hour'. Chase modelled and sold a bra from the play, and when the bidding lagged a bit I put my hand up to bid! Poor Chase looked quite shocked! I guess she wasn't expecting a woman to bid on her underwear! What? You mean you don't believe I was just trying to get the bidding going? How about if I said I really liked it and it looked my size? No? I guess really it was just a laugh. I'd have been able to make jokes about it for years! The bra probably would have ended up in a drawer. Anyway, I was beaten to it.

Actually, some confusion was caused at another point by me and James. James went and waved at Chase, and she had to explain to Aron, who was taking the bidding, that he was not making a bid! Me being a twat, I decided it would be a good joke to join in, and nearly ended up bidding more than I could afford on something or other! Still, having shocked Chase over her bra, it was my turn to get shocked later, when Aron referred to me by name. Since I couldn't remember my name being mentioned to him I was wondering how the heck he knew it!

A final item was the cardboard cut out of Quark. Apparently it had made quite a few stage appearances, but they'd decided it was time for it to be retired. I nearly put in some bids for that one, but luckily saw sense in time. I think it, plus small flat, plus two cats would have equalled cupboard or scratching post. Not a good idea.
