Since the beginning of the show, Chandler Bing and Monica Geller have been the closest of friends. It cannot be just 'joincidence with a C' that he is always just there for her ( while she's also always there for him ) although the theme song says so. She is one of his favourite people and admittedly one of the most beautiful women that he knows. And they are usually pictured together, either cuddling comfortably on the Central Perk couch or sharing intimate moments in Monica's apartment.
Once extremely overweight ( probably more than the weight of several cameras... ), Monica kept on stuffing herself with food until Chandler's arrival in the Geller household one fateful Thanksgiving. His comments certainly seems to have made a huge impression on her - he told her that she should be a cook and that she was fat ( which she overheard ).
From then on, Monica seems to have tried to fulfill his expectations of her. After paying her dues by doing several odd jobs, she finally achieves her dream of becoming a chef ( right now she is the head chef of a restaurant Alessandro's where everyone hates her as she once gave a bad review of it ).
Having also lost lotsa pounds, Monica has also emerged as a beautiful, curvaceous young woman who attracts the wrong men like a magnet. From guys who are far too young ( a high school senior! ) to guys who are far too old ( her father's best friend! ), to millionaires more into becoming a fighting champion than into her, to guys who are the sons of her ex-boyfriends ( GASP! ) to guys who are just schleps... suffice to say, Monica is a male date jinx.
Always the underdog in her family and regularly put down by her domineering mother, Monica has become extremely competitive and bossy. Nothing satisfies her except absolute victory - with total annihilation for all her opponents. The lady also has a thing ( fetish? ) for cleanliness and an ink spot on the couch would give her an apoplexy.
Filled with as many neurotic problems and equally unlucky with men, Monica seems the perfect complement to Chandler. It took them a while to realize it though. From the beginning where Chandler suggests that they get married if they're still single at 40, it's obvious that there's just a little more happening there than everyone thought.
There were hints of a relationship again in the end of Season Three when Chandler kept on persuading Monica to look on him as boyfriend material. Unfortunately she just couldn't especially after he peed on her ( nothing kinky! he was trying to help relieve the pain of a jellyfish sting! ).
Somehow or rather though, Chandler has finally gotten together with Monica Geller. Their trip to London for Ross' wedding resulted in the two somehow ending up in bed together where they manage to do it a monumental seven times. They try to explain their unusual behaviour by blaming the foreign atmosphere but when they return to the States, Chandler and Monica found that they really had something strong and definitely worth keeping between them.
The beginning of their beautiful.. relationship is marked by the couple trying to hide their new romance from their friends, resulting in several hilarious scenes ( especially when Joey is dragged in as their reluctant conspirator to cover up for them ). They aren't as discreet in the beginning however. Such as Chandler spontaneously kissing Monica on his way to work with everyone else staring in shock. Rather than explaining, he proceeds to kiss everyone too. As they try to hide out from everyone else, they even go away on a weekend together in Jersey. Unfortunately it doesn't turn out to be the romantic getaway they planned as the couple start their first fight what with Monica hopping from room to room in search of a pristine clean suite while Chandler's busy catching a car chase on TV. Their first fight ends with Chandler almost giving up on the relationship as he believes that relationships don't last through the first fight - hence the relative brevity of his romances. As bad as they are at personal relationships, they have decided to keep this one a secret as long as they can. There is also the added fact that Chandler is sleeping with his best friend's sister and with Ross on the rampage just then, they didn't think that he could accept it. Interestingly enough, Chandler's first declaration of love is made with Monica dancing with a turkey over her head.
Chandler: You are so great! I love you!
Their relationship progresses surprisingly well even with commitment-phobic Chandler willing to make that final jump into matrimony. The first proposal was a stunner as Chandler made it in lieu of an apology. To win Monica's forgiveness, he supposedly had to do something big which obviously translates to a wedding ring for him. However the second proposal was made in Las Vegas where they made the decision on the roll of a die. An interesting subject is the lovey-dovey couple's parents... So far, Chandler has of course met the Gellers - who initially hate him for dragging their beloved son, Ross into all sorts of reprehensible habits like smoking pot! Which is actually a made-up story. But when it's cleared up, it is obvious that the Gellers find themselves overly grateful to Chandler for taking on the hapless Monica - for who else would have her :) Lately too, Monica's need for a commitment and family has resurfaced - as strong as ever.. Though Chandler is still equally freaked out by the notion, there is a part of him that continues to offer up the chance of parenthood to Monica as a bribe. However, unknown to Monica, her reluctant beau is actually scheming and planning to make her his wife. Not only has the wily man bought a spectacular ring, he has also agreed to a venue for the occasion! One wonders what will happen when the regular suburban Gellers meet the dysfunctional Bings. I wonder whether the exacting Judy Geller would approve of Nora Bing's unorthodox ways and her midnight cravings for Kung-Pao chicken. and worse what would she think of Chandler's happy, gay father and his thing for buffed 20 year old boys? Aren't they just wonderful together? Definitely two neurotics in a bathtub... Definitely a match made in loony heaven. Don't worry, I am not the only one who thinks so.. just check this out...
