Rachel Green
Ever since she first appeared in Central Perk looking all despondent and bedraggled in her wedding dress, Rachel Green has always made a big impression. The spoilt 'princess' of a well-to-do suburban family, Rachel has it all - in school, she was part of the in-crowd, flirted with the football jocks, kicked heels with the cheerleaders, and regularly snubbed people who were beneath her.
But her life changed quickly as she realized that she couldn't marry the man who resembled Mr Potato-Head. Dumping her fiancee - an orthodontist - at the altar, she headed straight to Central Perk. From then on, she has had to face the realities of life with a low-paying job as a waitress to facing rental dues and horror of horrors - a life without a credit card! Of course, she has since then risen in the ranks of her career life and now commands aposition of respect in Ralph Lauren.
As the resident vegan new age princess, Phoebe is definitely a creature out of the common. More interested in reading auras than the daily news, she spends her time dealing more with the metaphysical than reality. But she makes a very good loyal friend.
There are few but incredibly significant moments in their life when Phoebe has lent Chandler a hand. Such as when he needed help breaking up with Janice... while Chandler was bungling up the whole thing - even managing to physically assault the girl while he's breaking up with her, Phoebe eases the break-up with a smile and a hug. It's definitely a gift. She has even had a stint as the Bossman Chandler's secretary where she managed to befriend everyone leaving Chandler friendless.
It also seems that although she finds him charming, handsome and funny, there's absolutely no way that she finds him attractive as a man.
One of Chandler's oldest friends, Ross was his roommate in college - together with his trusty air purifier. The caricature of a academician utterly involved in anthropology - Mr Science Man - Ross has a reputation for being methodical, strict and extremely logical. Which doesn't help him get through his life as he goes through several disastrous marriages - to a lesbian and then to a Brit Bitch.
But the one constant in his life has been his love for Rachel. Although Rachel hasn't exactly treated him well, he remains faithful to her - unless he's on a break.
Of course the latest happenings in his life has left him a tad whiny and mildly psychotic. Luckily the man has a son, Ben Geller to help him stabilize.
