The One Word Universe

Welcome to the One Word Universe page!

The original concept was a simple story called One Word, which upgraded itself to an epic, and has now reached a speculated total of ten parts. But back in January 2000, being me, and getting antsy, I was thinking through the alternate universe that created One Word, and then got a lovely challenge from my beta-readers to try and write that backstory.

So I did. With the help of the talented Kat Hughes, Diane Bellomo, and Sorcha.

The concept was pretty simple--after B'Elanna's epiphany in Extreme Risk, and the Delta Flyer returned from its little mission, Tom went to see B'Elanna. Things went into the extreme stages of not good, and their relationship ended. The characters are beginning to move on, but perhaps they are not choosing the healthiest way to do it.

The stories below are prequels to One Word, spanning the time between two weeks after the time of Extreme Risk to eleven months later, when the events of One Word begin. All can be considered stand-alones, but work best together. They will be placed in chronological order with references to episodes (now-AH) when necessary.

One Word

the story that spawned the POWs...

The Summary:

Tom and Seven have managed to build a life together. B'Elanna is slowly learning to accept--until suddenly, she's made an offer she can't refuse.

One question--what would you do?

One Word is set several months after POW #12--I've placed it sometime after canon Survival Instinct in the Sixth Season, but before Barge of the Dead. Yes, Equinox did happen, I just didn't see anything that really needed Alternating--though tempted to see how this Tom reacted to Max Burke.

Thanks to Kat, Stephane, Robin, Sandra, and Ann for the support, betas, hand-holding, and ruthless criticism. And a special thanks to Kat for answering desperate emails at two in the morning over minor plot points and not actually saying in so many words that I was insane. She also designed the lovely picture above. My gratitude.

Most of Seven's log entries were written by Kat. Thanks again.
