Sunset Beach January 6, 1997 - December 31, 1999 Well, folks, it's over. No more "Sunset Beach." Everyone associated with the show has moved on, and it's passed by just as quickly as it came. And everyone deserves a big cheer for all the hard work they put in. So, every few days, we'll be spotlighting a different cast member, starting in alphabetical order with the cast, then some of the bigger recurring characters, and then moving on to crew. We are now on the eleventh cast member. To review past spotlights visit: Spotlight Archives. |
RUSSELL CURRY Character: Dr. Tyus Robinson If ever there was a medical Renaissance Man, it was Dr. Tyus Robinson. Rarely seen unless he was operating, locking someone in the psychiatric ward, trying to bring someone back to life, creating a miracle cure for a horrible disease, or doing a paternity test, Tyus was left to gather dust on the shelf when he could have been involved in a storyline. An interesting character given more than his due by Russell, Tyus was for some reason ignored until medical attention was needed, in which case you'd see him all the time. I always wondered if it frustrated him as much as it did me, because if I had been him I wouldn't have been very happy and maybe a litle insulted. He loved Vanessa even though she was with Michael--surely something could have been done with that! Especially after he had unknowingly been the father of her miscarried child and there was all that drama surrounding it. And Heaven knows after Virginia was carted off the the nuthouse, the entire black contingent just sat there. We all saw how heartwrenching Russell was when Vanessa lost the baby that he'd just found out was his! He was great! But he was just knocked down to off-contract status and we didn't see him much after that. I was confident that if the show lived past December, he would have seen the light of a storyline again, but it wasn't to be, I guess. He was appreciated, though. Duante
