Bears end losing streak with dramatic 14-13 win in Green Bay
GREEN BAY, Wis. (Nov. 7, 1999) — The Chicago Bears were certain Walter Payton was watching, and they were certain he was proud.
Chicago snapped a 10-game losing streak against Green Bay with a 14-13 victory at Lambeau Field. Rookie quarterback Cade McNown started his third game for the injured Shane Matthews, but lasted only two series. McNown suffered a knee injury on the team's second rive and was forced to sit the remainder of the contest.
After a Green Bay field goal gave the Packers a 3-0 lead, Jim Miller came off the bench as the Bears new signal caller. He led Chicago on a seven-play, 86 yard drive with Glyn Milburn scoring on a career-long 49-yard touchdown run. The Bears ground game carried the team for all 86 yards with Curtis Enis, James Allen and Milburn all with runs of 11 yards or more in the series. Neither team mustered much offense in the second quarter until the Packers took advantage of a Bears interception with just over three minutes left in the half.

Green Bay drove 49 yards after the turnover and Brett Favre found
Tyrone Davis on a third down touchdown pass to give the Packers a 10-7 halftime lead. Chicago racked up 122 rushing yards in the first
half while Green Bay threw for 130 yards. Chicago drove 50 yards on its opening drive in the third quarter, but squandered a scoring opportunity with a fumble inside the 10-yard line. After holding the Packers to only three plays and a punt, the Bears pounced on their next opportunity with a 55-yard scoring drive. Miller found Bobby Engram on a six-yard touchdown pass to give the lead back to Chicago, 14-10.

Green Bay answered on the ensuing drive with a 26-yard field goal cutting the Bears lead to 14-13. Hanging on to its one point lead, Chicago put together a 12-play drive, eating over five minutes off the clock, in the fourth quarter, but failed to convert on a 34-yard field goal. Both teams went three and out on their next drive leaving Green Bay with a final opportunity with just over three minutes left in the game and a one-point deficit. Brett Favre moved the Packers down to Chicago's 10-yard line setting up a game winning field goal attempt with seven seconds left on the clock. Bears defensive tackle Bryan Robinson spoiled Green Bay's fourth come-from-behind victory at Lambeau field this season by blocking the 28-yard attempt as time expired.

"I think Walter Payton picked me up, because I can't jump that high," said Robinson, who swatted away Longwell's kick and gave the Bears their first win at Lambeau since 1992. "I just got my hand on that leather, and it felt so good. It's for you, Walter."

Longwell said the snap, the hold and his hit on the final kick were all good, but Robinson batted the ball down rather easily. Longwell also had a field goal blocked and returned 61 yards for a touchdown by the Seattle Seahawks in last week's 27-7 loss.
"I hit the ball pretty good, but I need a lane to kick it through, and obviously somebody made a great play," Longwell said. "Sometimes things just happen that you can't explain."

Walter Saved His Best For the Packers
Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton rushed for over 100-yards against 21 different teams, but he saved his best for Green Bay. "Sweetness" ran for more of his NFL record 16,726 yards against the Packers than any other NFL team. In 24 career games against Green Bay, Payton rushed for 2,484 yards, including 13 100-yard efforts. His 18 touchdowns versus the Bears arch rival also is the most he scored against any NFL squad.
