Sunset Beach has been cancelled by NBC despite all of our efforts to urge NBC to give Sunset Beach longer than 2 years to gain an audience. What can we do?
At the SSBC we aim to provide the latest information of people who you should target your mail to. We suggest that you write letters, as written letters have more of an impact than E-mail. However if it is not possible to write letters then please send E-mails regularly to all the concerned parties.
The SSBC urges you to write to networks such USA, Lifetime, WB and FOX to get them to pick up Sunset Beach's contract.
Why WB or FOX?
For the most part, Spelling shows do very well on both networks, Spelling has a good relationship with both networks, and the networks care about their shows. Both networks seem interested in breaking into the daytime industry - and there are even rumors that both are interested in airing Sunset Beach as a primetime soap opera (10pm timeslot).
Why USA or Lifetime?
Both of these networks have showed interest in starting up a daytime soap opera line-up, would be interested in airing a Spelling program and are actually being pursued by Spelling.
Why Channel 5?
Channel 5 Europe is attempting to mount a Baywatch style rescue bid on its imported soap, Sunset Beach. Channel 5's head of acquisitions Jeff Ford said: "We will try to mirror what happened when Baywatch was axed in the US, and ITV and several other European partners rescued it. Sunset Beach doesn't rank that highly in the US, but it does have some value in Europe. We're looking at all the different ways of how we can continue the show. It's an irresistible, feel-good series."
Why Aaron Spelling?
He needs to know that this show is worth saving. That there will be people who are going to watch it every day. He needs to know that he is supported as well.
Why NBC?
While this is not our priority we urge you to try NBC as well, it is not the first time that a Network has brought back a show after a huge surge of letters. Famous cases such as Star Trek (which went onto a 30 year franchise), Sliders (cancelled after 13 episdes is now enjoying its 5th season) and 3rd Rock From the Sun (now also enjoying its 5th season) are all around us and it is not unheard of for a network to reverse it's decision if there is sufficient popularity.
