Finding a Job for a Siamese Cat
by Dustytoo, Siamese Cat, edited by Traute
A cat has a mind of his own. I know what I like to do. I just have to convince my human that I am capable of handling the job.
My Desk
When I moved in with Traute, she had something for me which my previous humans did not have, a big desk. That looked like the perfect spot for a tired cat to sleep on. First of all, however, I had to get rid of all the stuff on it for which I had no use. That was easy. I pushed all the books and newspapers off the desk onto the floor. Now I had room to sleep.Today is Thursday, February 2, 2004, the day I found a new job for myself. I had a busy day. I spent most of it trying to clean up my desk. After managing to push off all the newspapers and letters onto the floor, I picked up the pens and pencils with my mouth and hurled them on the floor. What's the matter with my human? She should know by now that I cannot write with pens or pencils. I cannot hold onto them because I do not have a thumb. That human of mine won't give up trying to teach me to use a pen or pencil. She keeps picking them off the floor and placing them on my desk again. How am I ever going to get this messy desk cleaned up?
A Computer
A bright cat like me is never too old to learn new tricks. I discovered a fascinating machine in this new office of mine. It is called a computer. I watched Traute moving her fingers on a board with lots of little square buttons. That looked like fun. So today, I had to try it. Traute kept trying to distract me, but I persisted, and I finally learned to work these buttons, and that is how I typed this story.Traute tells me that I am a terrible speller, but she liked my story and decided to edit it for me. That means she has corrected my spelling mistakes.
Do you like my story?
My New Name
Now that I found a new job for myself writing stories, Traute knew what she was going to call me. She used to have another cat who wrote stories on the computer. Her name was Dusty the Garden Cat, and here is a photo of her.© Traute Klein, biogardenerSo Traute named me "Dusty too" or "Dustytoo" in honor of her first story-writing cat.
You know what? Dusty was also part Siamese. And everyone knows that we Siamese are the smartest cats in the world, always eager to learn new tricks.
