Chapter 15
Suri saw as she was examining him, and grinning, waited for her to finish. He could feel her asking gaze all over him, trying to decipher him. He hid his emotions, his thoughts, even his love from her, as best as he could. He felt her trying to push harder, but he remained silent, and resisting every attempt she tried. Then, he felt as her mind retracted, she had been defeated, at least for now. When he saw her clear again, still smiling, asked: "Did I pass your exam, Princess Mercury?"
The girl blushed. She never thought she could have been caught so easily. Mental powers were never a strong point in her, but they were very developed for the average inhabitant of the Silver Millenium. When they were together, she and Zoisite had spent hours studying books, and ancient scrolls, trying to discover new ways of mind reading. Several times they had scanned each other, and they were now able to recognize each other brain waves.
That's why Suri hid his emotions and feelings, he knew Mercury would suspect something if she found his thoughts to be so similar to Zoisite's. It had been hard, but he had done it successfully. I wonder where did she get that strong! Her powers have improved a lot since the last time we practiced this!
His thoughts were interrupted by Mercury's voice: "Yes you did, Lord Suri." They smiled, and knew they had become friends.
"So, Lady Mercury. Will you tell me what's bothering you?"
Mercury seemed to hesitate, but answered: "It's nothing."
"Oh, come on. There's something worrying you, I can see it. You can't fool me about it." And then, it hit her. Those were the exact same words Zoisite had used about a month ago, when they were on the beach. Their last conversation was plastered on her face, she knew she couldn't be wrong. She went pale, and covered her mouth with her right hand, barely holding to the windowsill with the other, to avoid from falling.
Suri saw as she gasped, and turned white. Oops, I guess this time I went too far "Lady Mercury? Are you alright?" he said, trying desperately to find a way to distract her of the thought he knew was going through her head.
"You... you are... Zoisite?" was the reply he got. Her voice was trembling, a bare whisper that reached his ears. Her body was shaking in surprise, and her eyes showed fear. And then, she fainted.
Her little body was limp, and she fell to he ground. Luckily, he got her before she reached it, and held her in his arms. Her face rested on his arm, her closed eyes, if they had opened at that time, would have seen a worried face, a face that she had immediately recognized as Zoisite's. The worry it showed, the panic of her being seriously hurt, the love they poured out, was enough to match him with the Earth General. Oh, my God. Now what am I going to do? She knows who I am, and now I have her here, unconscious. I knew this wasn't going to work!
Then, he saw the door. It was opened, and lead to a balcony. He hadn't noticed it before, because he was sure there were no open door in the room. This must be Princess Serenity's work. Thanks! He carried her out, taking special care as to not staining her dress.
The night breeze was cold, but comfortable. The stars were shining brightly, and the earth was in the sky, irradiating hope to him. He reached the far end of the balcony, where a stone bench was. There, he put her, taking off his cape to make a pillow, for her head not to touch the cold stone. Then, he checked her pulse, and saw with relief that it was beating, as it should be. Her chest went up and down, as her breathing returned to normal. He took her hand into his, and kissed it lightly.
"I've always said you look wonderful when you sleep..." he whispered, looking to her face. Then, he patted her palm swiftly, while he said: "Lady mercury, Lady Mercury. Wake up!"
His voice was enough for the girl to wake up. First, her eyelids fluttered a bit, and to his surprise, her hand squeezed his a bit. Them her eyes opened, and seemed to awake from a dream.
