I access the Lake of Illusions excitedly, and I am pleased to find out that my counter has been ticking continously over the past few hours I've been offline. With a big, big smile on my face, I view my guestbook to see what new entries have been added. To both my happiness and dismay (both emotions tearing at me at the same time ), I find that five more people have signed my guestbook, but three of them usually read: "Good job! Mercury isn't exactly one of my favorite scouts, but you've done nice work on her " See what I mean? Please don't get me wrong, because I really appreciate all traffic coming to my page, be it bad (None yet of the bads! So far, I haven't gotten a flame yet ) or good. ^^ For those people who did visit the page and signed my guestbook, I'd like to say thank you and that you've made me so happy (In fact, it makes me even happier if you enjoyed the page, and you're not an Ami-chan fan! ^^)! I'm just a tad confused that my guestbook holds more of the abovesaid comments than those of Ami fans, and I would like to question about the sudden decline of Mercury supporters on the net. |
In the beginning, everytime you type Sailormercury, you'd get a never-ending list of Ami-lovers who have devotedly made pages of worship to her. There was a time when you couldn't count all the Sailormercury shrines on your fingers. But for some reason, her popularity began to decline slowly, most of her fans reverting to other senshi (particularly Sailorneptune). Now, good Sailormercury pages are rare and far in between, and if ever you do find one, it's never updated as much as you would want. I wonder why this is so |
So they say. Ami-chan a nerd? I have to admit that this is true most of the time, as she is always found with her nose stuck in a book, trying to learn as much as she can. But does this mean that she is merely "booksmart" just as other people like to say? You may have read what Apatt had to say about this. Well, if you hadn't yet, then I suggest you do. He states a very important point about Ami having a deep understanding about what she's reading, and this is why she is smart. As Ruk-oneesama had once said, Ami is nay a nerd because of the following reasons: Ami-chan may read and know a lot from her constant studying, but she applies what she knows in battle. Most nerds make it a point to know a lot of things, but they never have the chance to apply them. And "booksmart" people, by the way, are no good at practical application. Maybe the people who say these stuff are the ones we should call merely "booksmart" For more info, please refer to Ami-chan: In Depth and The Brilliance of Blue Versus The Acumen of Aquamarine. |
In Japan, they liked her just fine, but when the Sailormoon fever finally reached the United States, dislike and even hate for Ami-chan rose a great deal. Oh, well, what else can we expect, from the country that is the origin of such stupid stereotypes as "nerds" and "cool" people? *sigh!* As much as I like and am intrigued by American pop culture, this is the lone thing I hate so much (I guess I'm not taken over completely by colonial mentality yet). And as expected, Ami-chan did not become popular among this crowd so allergic to what they so call "nerds" and "geeks". Oh, well
Go figure!
But my friend Psyber assures me that there is still a quiet majority of "nerds" who happen to like Ami-chan in America! Well, I certainly hope so!

Debates about this matter has been commonly heard throughout the SM Community. It has been stressed again and again that Michiru is naturally smart, and that Ami has gained her intelligence only from reading and studying to the bone. Well, before I can comment further on this (and fill this page up with the same contents of my Versus page ^^), I suggest you head on over to The Brilliance of Blue Versus The Acumen of Aquamarine page.
In terms of power (which I also describe in that page), Michiru is certainly stronger than Ami-chan, which might be just as well, for Ami-chan would be too perfect if she, too, was bestowed with powers such as Michiru's. She already has her mini supercomputer (which is certainly better than vainly trying to guess what your enemy's weakness is) to fight with, and her visor as well, which Michiru doesn't have.
You gotta admit that variety makes the series more interesting. This is why Naoko brought us two such different and interesting characters, Mi-chan and Ami-chan.
In terms of beauty, well, that's a matter of opinion
^^ I say that Ami-chan is cute, and Mi-chan is exotic (see how they differ even in looks?).

The Weakest Senshi? It is a true and well-known fact that Sailor Mercury is the weakest senshi. If you have the time to refer to Sailormoon CyberCity, you may very well find the Senshi Attacks crosscharts, and see that Mercury is second to the weakest, Chibimoon. But in the same crosschart, you can also find that Sailor Mercury is the highest ranking of all the senshi (even higher than Uranus) in endurance. Surprised? Let us all be grateful to Miss Rowena Lim for leading us to this wonderful discovery!
More often than not, the Shabon Spray, Sailor Mercury's first attack, is ridiculed for its uselessness. Well, for one thing, its main use is for distraction and defense, and it's certainly not an offensive attack. It has served its purpose well, and there is no need to blather on about it. And, as any good warrior knows, succeeding in a battle does not entirely depend on power, but also on strategy.

Ami-chan is just perfect the way she is! Why can't they realize it? Here we have a girl that's pretty, smart, athletic, Kasumi-like in kindness-- heck, I don't think all the adjectives will fit into this one page!
Actually, I find it very ironic that you find fault with dear, dear Ami-chan for being so passive, yet you persecute Rei-chan for being the exact opposite of her! Does that mean that when Ami changes her attitude and tries to be more assertive like Rei-chan, you'd hate and misunderstand her as much? Unfair to both of them, wouldn't it? Anyway, I find all this hate business stupid and it's also a terrible waste of time.
