The Chinese Zodiac is similar to the Western Horoscope, except for a small difference. Instead of operating in 12 month cycles, the Chinese Zodiac operates in 12 year cycles, and each person born under an animal year will exibit that animal's traits.
Thousands of years ago, Buddha called all the animals to participate in a special race. The first 12 animals finishing the race will be honored. The race finished, and the 12 animals were, in order: the Rat, the Ox, the Tiger, the Rabbit, the Dragon, the Snake, the Horse, the Goat, the Monkey, the Rooster, the Dog, and the Pig.
Each of the 12 animals were given a year of influence, and from this day forth all the people born under an animal year will exhibit the traits of the animal governing that year.
Since the Chinese calendar is different from the Western calendar, it is hard to really determine your animal year, especially if you were born in the beginning or the end of the year. But for simplicity's sake, the first month of the Chinese calendar falls between January and February, so if you're born in January then your Zodiac sign is that of the previous year.
Here are the years, plus images of each animal. Feel free to download, just take note that all drawings are © the Krydragon! ^^
