Wear to Get It
WHEN YOU GAZE UPON A STAR, MAKES NO DIFFERENCE WHO YOU ARE: YOU CAN BUY THEIR DUDS. By LORI L. THARPS
EVER WATCHED AN EPISODE OF SEX AND THE CITY and found yourself so engrossed in the fashions that the plot seemed secondary? Do you tune in to the Academy Awards just to see what your favorite stars are wearing? You're not alone. In fact, several websites—including WearItAll.com, AsSeenIn.com, and New Line Cinema Auction (auction.newline.com)—will cater to your specific pop-cult fetishes (and even help with your holiday shopping).
Like the way Casper Van Dien looks on Titans? You can buy the same threads at WearItAll.com, a company that helps outfit the stars and sells the same designer styles to fashion-forward fans. Former sitcom actor Mark Clayman (Saved by the Bell) and company president Mark Hirsch launched WearItAll.com in May. The site is really two divisions: Studio/Entertainment Services provides celeb clients—ranging from the boys in 'N Sync to Jack Nicholson—with shoes, clothing, and jewelry for both personal and professional use. The other half, at WearItAll.com, is where regular folks can shop for the star-style garb.
This is not one of those sites where you'll be bidding on a sweat-soaked Britney Spears T-shirt. "We're more into the fashion aspect of the industry than the auction-type side of it," explains Clayman, who says the company has been in the black since August, thanks partly to a decision to virtually forgo advertising.
Most of the clothing and accessories featured at the site are from up-and-coming or boutique designers—like Sheri Bodell (fans include Sharon Stone)—who generally have limited distribution outlets outside New York and L.A. "Most people want to wear what celebrities are wearing, but it's usually inaccessible to the average person," says Clayman. "We've made it accessible to the person in Waterloo, Ark. We're bridging the gap."
