The next morning, Gordon and O’Hara were back at their regular posts. Late the night before, Mayor Linseed had received a full account of Commissioner Clavicle’s activities. She was immediately discharged and Gordon re-instated.

Not only did Mrs. Linseed not object, she voluntarily resigned as Chief of Police. Gordon then re-appointed O’Hara, who had spent most of the morning firing the newly-hired policewomen and re-hiring the policemen.

Chief O’Hara also fully re-instated the policewomen who had previously been ordered by Clavicle to undergo “re-training.” She had needed the competent policewomen out the way, so they wouldn’t interfere with her Operation Disaster Insurance.

It was late in the morning when O’Hara finally had a chance to join Gordon in the Commissioner’s office. The Irish-American began, “Well, with Nora Clavichord behind bars–”

“Chief O’Hara,” the Commissioner corrected, “that’s Clavicle.”

“Hm. Well, a rose by any other name, Commissioner. And what a rose she was, with Mrs. Linseed under her thumb and all those exploding mice under her feet!”

“Yes,” Gordon agreed. “At least she didn’t pull it off, thanks to Batman, Robin and Batgirl.”

“Do you think we’ll have a breather now, Commissioner?”

“Oh, unless we get some disturbing phone call, Chief O’Hara.”
