Discuss This Book--The main character of this book is Bilboo Baggins, a hobbit. By nature hobbits have an extreme dislike for adventure. They would rather stay at home where they can always ensure a timely meal and a warm bed.
One afternoon a troop of dwarves arrive at Bilbo's front door, one by one, and with them is the wizard Gandolf. Hobbits are naturally polite, and Bilbo proves to be a good host (though he doesn't enjoy it much). Eventually he learns that he has been enlisted to go on an adventure with the dwarves to recover stolen gold. He was even given the title of "Burglar"
Bilbo learns that the dwarves' stolen gold is guarded by the dragon, Smaug. Along the way Bilbo and his friends are kidnapped by goblins, captured by giant spiders, and held captive by elves. In the end they must ramain courageous as they face the dragon and fight for their treasure.
The book was fast paced, and action packed. I found it to be a relaxing change of pace, as it was the first fantasy novel I've ever read.
