The Color Purple Alice Walker

--Admittedly, it has been a while since I rread the book. So I'm a slacker when it comes to keeping up with the book reviews...

The book is like a collection of letters that Celie writes to god, and then to her sister. It seems to be her way of surviving the things life throws at her. Between her cruel husband, her estranged sister (Nettie), and the son and daughter she believed to be dead, Celie's leads a fairly difficult life, but maintains a positive attitude about it.

Then Celie meets her husband's lover - a flamboyant blues singer, Shug Avery, who cannot be ruled. Shug teaches Celie how to make herself happy and how to demand self-respect. Thanks to Shug, Celie learns to enjoy life, and begins making pants. Celie learns is that life is what she makes of it.

I enjoyed the book. I enjoyed the style of writing. Celie writes as she speaks. She can't spell and her grammar sucks, but she doesn't care. it gives the book a spirit of its own and makes the ride an enjoyable one.
