rabit is rich John Updike --Published in 1981, rabbit is rich is a loook back at the 70's. Nelson, Harry's son, is grown up and getting married to a girl named Pru. Pru is a girl Nelson met at college, whom he has gotten pregnant.
Harry feels somewhat responsible for the way his son's life has turned out. He feels sorry for Nelson, and tries to help, but doesn't know how. He can sense that marriage and working at his father's car lot is not what Nelson truly wants.
Harry's wife Janice, and her mother insist that Nelson work at the lot. Harry refuses, but he is no match for Janice and her mother. Nelson comes to work at the lot, putting Harry's friend (and Janice's old lover) Charlie Stavros out of a job.
The good news is that Harry and Janice's marriage has never been better. They've made a fortune from Harry's work at the lot, they have joined a country club, and made new friends there. Janice and Harry rush off to a dream vacation with their friends, but the vacation is cut short by trouble with Nelson and Pru at home.
I enjoyed this book. After my distase for the second of the series, i was grateful for Updike's 3rd installation, the view of the 70's.
