Man in the Street
Music: Michael Rozhdestvensky

Forget! Then nothing will remain
           below or above.
Forget! Then no man will complain
           he missed his love.
To forget remembering itself,
let forget, and make forget
everybody you ever met,
to save their lives and health.

Come on! We need continuation
           for everything.
Come on! We feed the situation
           our blindness brings.
And forget that all that we forget,
coming down or coming on,
passing by or going along,
we tried so hard to get,
[echoing:] to meet, to find, to set...

Forget! What could be done is done,
           don't plague your heart.
Forget! Who's got a starting gun
           has got to start.

Satisfied and silent people
           crowding in the street
never stop and never think,
           no time never free.
They are numbers, they are figures,
           no one counts their souls.
They are concepts, they are theories,
           chained in a faceless whole.
Wars and peace, work or strike,
all they do is numberlike,
and only when statistics change
they break the rules and rearrange...

And if you want to join the whole,
Forget yourself, and play your role.
