My WDWCP Story
Or, How I got the job of my dreams!

Unlike many of the lucky ducks I went to middle school with, I didn't get to go to Disney World until I was 18. It was the summer of 1995, I had just graduated and was taking my last band trip with the Rose Bud High School Rambler Band to the All-American Music Festival in Orlando. Our itenerary included 2 days at Disney World, and our director (my dad, by the way) decided that those two days should be spent at Magic Kingdom and Epcot. It was love at first sight. I had a blast! It was the most wonderful experience of my life! All I knew is that I had to work there.

The next summer, the summer after my freshman year in college, my family decided to go back to Florida again, since we had such a great time during the first trip. So we packed up our bags and headed to sunny Orlando for an entire week of theme park fun! Again, I was amazed at the magic atmosphere created at the Disney parks. I thought back to something I had heard about from a friend of mine, something about a web page with information about a college program at Disney World. But, somehow, it got pushed to the back of my mind, and I forgot about it. But not for long...

Later that year, I was surfing the web, when, somehow, I remembered about the college program. So, I looked it up and read through the page, paying attention to every detail. I thought it sounded great! I mentioned it to my parents, and they were all for it.

The next month was spent looking up information and preparing for the interview, which was only a few short weeks away. I didn't mention it to my friends because 1) they might think it was a silly idea, and 2) if I didn't get in, I didn't want to explain it and make myself feel worse! :) So, off I went to the University of Memphis (the closest college where they were conducting interviews-- 3 hours away!) and went through the interview process. I sat through the presentation, and since I had driven so far, they interviewed me and a few other people that night. They interviewed us two at a time, and I was really nervous, because the questions they were asking me were so much harder than the ones they were asking the other girl I interviewed with! I figured I had done the best I could, and went home.

When the offer came, I was shocked! I hadn't planned to be accepted on my first try! Not only that, they had given me my first choice in jobs (Attractions Hostess)! I had now been given the honor of becoming the first student from Harding University to participate in the Walt Disney World College Program. With August coming up soon, I prepared myself for what would surely be the most exciting semester of my life...
