'.....I learned to cook using a bit of this, and some of that....so, I don't have exact measurements. Sorry:-)'
1 lb ground beef, browned & drained
1 large onion, chopped
2 or 3 cloves of garlic, chopped
1 14.5 or 15-oz can of diced tomato (I like the ones that already have some seasonings in)
1 15-oz can tomato sauce or 2 small cans tomato paste for a thicker sauce
Rosemary, basil, oregano, thyme, parsley flakes, salt & pepper, sage, cinnamon, celery seed, cayenne pepper, dry mustard - what I do is just shake some of each in until it looks and tastes right
2 or 3 bay leaves
orange and/or lemon peel (not a lot, I use about 1/3 of an orange and 1/4 of lemon peel)
Throw everything into the slow cooker; stir up real well
This is when I taste to see what I think needs to be added
Cook on low setting for 6 to 8 hours, or more
When you are ready to serve, take out peel and bay leaves
