Freedom From Fear
|
I use to think fear was an emotion, so I was surprised the first time I
heard a teaching on 2 Timothy 1:7. According to the Strongs Concordance, the Greek
word for spirit used in 2 Timothy 1:7 is pn?uma, which in this case means demon. Paul is
trying to tell us that we dont have to live with fears, being fearful is not our
true identity, and freedom is found in Christ. Not every thought that flows through my
mind is actually from me. Some of our thoughts may be whispers from the enemy trying to
trap us. If the devil would rather we focus on anything but God. So if he can convince us
we are claustrophobic, acrophobic, or just plane fearfulthen he is happy and we are
in bondage. Romans 8:15 says, For you have not received the spirit of bondage again
to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
This is good news. We dont have to be a victim to the enemys tricks. We
dont have to live in fear. I use to suffer from multiple chronic illnesses, but in 1996 I began to learn how what goes on in my brain affects my body. I learned chronic fear can seriously affect the health of the body. From the teachings God brought my way and lots of prayers, today I am in good health. When fear tries to take control, I now reject it. I and some of my friends who have also been healed of chronic illnesses have learned to overcome the tricks of the enemy by praying, praising the Lord, listening to praise music, and singing to God. Is fear a problem for you? Take time to ask the Lord to help you overcome the tricks of the enemy. The next time you feel afraid try fighting back with prayer or praise. You may be as surprised as my friend Dianne was when she turned a cassette of praise music on and an allergic reaction and the fear that accompanied it left her immediately.
