Today is December 11, 1999. I am 24 years old. I am in my last semester, last WEEK, even of college. I attend a very small, very conservative, private Christian college: Ohio Valley College. I live in West Virginia in a very small town that no one has ever heard of, but only for two more weeks. I am moving to Massachusetts on December 26 to be with the girl I love. I am heavily into theatre. I majored in theatre for a spell before transfering to Ohio Valley. I'm now simply a liberal studies major, which means I take a little bit of this, a little bit of that. It's a humanities course. Basically literature and history. I love the stuff. It's great. Though I don't necessarily love school, as I am exceedingly burnt out. I have a part time job. Actually, tonight is my last night at Waldenbooks. I just directed two one-act plays at school. One was a Wendy Wasterstein piece called The Man In A Case. It's a dramatic piece and when done correctly should be incredibly moving. I almost cried at one point during rehearsal the other night, because a part was as intense and beautiful as I had ever seen it. I'm not sure that same moment has continued to be captured in the same way...but...such is life. The other play was If Women Worked As Men Do. It's a comedy and I have no idea who the author is off the top of my head. I guess it's not anyone really well known. I love directing, but acting is my first love.
As for what I do in my spare time...I spend gobs of time online waiting for my beautiful girlfriend to come online or emailing her or just piddling around on the net. I listen to music all the time. I have a huge CD collection right now. I watch some tv, love movies, love reading and writing, and I also spend a lot of free time sleeping. What kind of music do I listen to? For the most part I listen to alternative type stuff. I ADORE Sarah McLachlan, I will buy any CD with her voice on it in any form...singles, included...I listen to a lot of female artists right now. That's my big thing...favorites include Fiona Apple, Dar Williams, Abra Moore, Tara McClean, Lili Haydn, Natalie Merchant, K's Choice, the Murmurs, Fleming and John, Jonatha Brooke, Sixpence None the Richer (probably my favorite band)... ..ummm...and of course, I listen to a lot of showtunes...my favorite musical was Les Miserables and now RENT has taken the number one spot...I LOVE it. I cried through the whole thing when I saw it for the first time with my Aly-Joy in May. I'll be seeing it again in December. I listen to a lot of Andrew Lloyd Webber, my two favorite ALW shows are Aspects of Love and Sunset Boulevard. Other favorite shows to LISTEN to, that I unfortunately have not seen yet are CABARET!! (I'm mildly obsessed with Alan Cumming), You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, and Miss Saigon, for starters. I will be attending a performance of Jekyll and Hyde tomorrow afternoon, and sadly I will be going by myself, which will be a first, but it will be a good experience. I also listen to classical, particularly Mozart.
Okay...movies, movies...movies and tv...anything with Sarah Michelle Gellar, so obviously that makes me a big Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan...I watch a lot of the shows on the WB...Felicity, Charmed and the new shows this season, Jack and Jill, Popular, and Angel...also watch NBC comedies such as Will and Grace, Friends, Third Rock From the Sun, and Just Shoot Me...that about sums it up for tv...My all time favorite movie is probably Amadeus...goes hand in hand with my liking of Mozart. I also find Monty Python and the Holy Grail to be a riot...good stuff...and my favorite recent film is You've Got Mail. No one who has ever fallen in love with someone they met online could possibly dislike that movie. Ya gotta love it. Let's see...I also love Fried Green Tomatoes, Father of the Bride, Hope Floats, and My Fair Lady. Penny Seranade is another one of my old favorites.
I write poetry, not as often now as I used to. I think that's due in part to the fact that most of my poetry...what I feel is my best poetry...comes out of anger and depression and hurt and I haven't felt those things in a very very long time. I have also started writing numerous stories and would-be novels, but rarely do they get completed. That's okay, though, because I have the rest of my life to complete them. I read...A LOT! My top five all time favorite books, in no particular order: A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, The Joy Luck Club, Sons and Lovers, Rilla of Ingleside, and a book of very very recent stature, that quite honestly I couldn't get into at all in the beginning Bridget Jones' Diary. Okay, I just remembered another fabulous book, so I'll say top six, instead of five...I Know This Much Is True. So, there you have it. My top five...errr...top six books.
My family...I will be living with my parents for the next two weeks, as I have my whole life. However, as I mentioned earlier, I will be moving to Massachusetts to shack up with my girlfriend. *g* My sister went off to college this fall. She attends West Virginia Wesleyan College and is an English major. She's one of my favorite people and is super hella funny. She and I will talk online and crack each other up for long periods of time. I think we get along better now since she has gone off to school than we did before..mainly because we never see each other. I also have a doggie, Ginger. She is some semblance of Terrier Mutt...we don't know what exact mix though. In case you are wondering what I look like...here is a page of pictures of me with friends, family, etc...it's pretty old at this point, but heck...it'll have to do for now.
