That said, on to the review!
Tristan Carruthers and Ivy Lyons were the happiest teen couple in town...until Tristan died in an automobile accident. Tristan has returned as an angel, but Ivy--whose faith in angels was once so very strong--has lost hope and he cannot reach her. Tristan is becoming increasingly desperate to communicate with her, because he's learned that the accident that killed him was actually a murder attempt on her life. With no other way open to him, he begins looking for other people through whom he can reach her...but can he bear to reach out through the one person who may be his one best hope of reaching Ivy? Because in Will O'Leary he's found someone whose thoughts and feelings so closely match his own that it's the work of a moment to "enter" him and look out through his eyes. But is Will a potential ally in his quest to save Ivy...or a potential rival?
Kissed by an Angel: The Power of Love is, like its predecessor, not necessarily a horror novel, but as before, the eeriness of it all--an angel who could easily pass as a ghost with unfinished business--coupled with the supernatural but not fantastic plot clearly marks it as being something other than fantasy. So, there you are.
One of the better parts of this novel is the way Ivy's character matures and progresses beyond her grief into her recovery. The author built up Ivy's dependency and intimacy (platonic intimacy, thank you) on and with her stepbrother naturally and plausibly, so that it was not questionable when the two became so close. Now, Ivy's effort to pull away from him is similarly believable, even if it is partially motivated by her desire to keep one of her best friends just that. We see other things as well, like how much Ivy has to struggle to keep from dwelling on the past, or how shy she is about opening her heart up again to anyone. It's all handled in a realistic fashion, and nowhere near so jarring to the overall story as an angel with spiky purple-tinged hair (if you've met Lacey, you understand what I'm talking about).
Kissed by an Angel: The Power of Love may be everything you expected it to be...or it may not. The only way you'll know is if you read the book yourself. But believe you me: this novel is a far cry from a preachy religion-based book determined to convert you. It's a novel (or a set of novels, really) filled with messages that readers of any sort can enjoy...provided, of course, you're willing to concede the existence at least of ghosts.
