That said, on to the review!
Tristan Carruthers loves Ivy Lyons...loves her so much that he remains near her even after he dies in an automobile accident. Staying with her and reaching her through her fading faith is his only chance of saving her from a murderer, the same one who missed the first time and killed him by accident. But, unable to communicate with her himself, he must find those whom he can reach and use them as a medium to get to her. And if he does, he may finally find a way to save her from his killer. However, every step he takes forward in his quest brings him one step closer to passing on. In the end, can he save his beloved Ivy, even if it means losing her until she too passes into the hereafter? And can he bear to leave her alone and bereft after she's lost him once already, or can he find the strength to let her go and urge her into the arms of another who loves her as he does?
Kissed by an Angel: Soulmates wraps up the trilogy the only way it can, with the same dilemma that all ghosts who complete their business on earth must endure: leaving behind those they love. Like its predecessors, the book is not a horror novel, but there are several sections of the text that are more horrific and suspenseful than the ten o'clock news.
I approached this book with trepidation when I first read it. After all, knowing that it is the ending of the series is a terrible weight to carry with you as you read a book. Moreover, by the time you reach this book you already have a feeling that you know what's going to happen and you don't necessarily want it to actually happen (that is, reading the conclusion makes it real and give it a sense of finality when you'd rather continue to enjoy the series). Still, you know that eventually you'll just have to read the book, not only because you've scolded yourself into accepting the inevitable, but because you want to see what other problems can arise to make these two soulmates realize how strong their love really is. At least, that's how I felt when I read the book.
Kissed by an Angel: Soulmates does pretty much what you expect it to, providing definite conclusion to the trilogy, wrapping up most--if not all--of the loose ends and drawing a curtain on this "chapter" in the characters' lives (or deaths, as the case may be). Still, the pleasure of reading isn't simply to get from the beginning to the end. It's to enjoy every moment of the trip, regardless of what each page may bring!
