That said, on to the review!
When mysterious deaths occur in a quiet town, no one knows what to think or do. No one, that is, except for Jimmy Meredith. You see, he unfortunately found out something about the new girl in town, Lara Collins. She's the girl that all the boys are going crazy over, Jimmy included. And, surprise of surprises, she's become fond of Jimmy as well. It becomes apparent, however, that something is bothering her, and the something may very well cost Jimmy his life. Because if he doesn't tell his father the truth and betray his girlfriend's secret, he and his family may be the next corpses the police find!
Kiss of Death is a superb book in the horror line, but this one--surprise, surprise--isn't a vampire or witch novel. I can't tell you what kind of novel it is without giving it all away, but it isn't one of those. So, what is it? Ghosts, demons, werewolves, mummies, zombies, ghouls...the list keeps going, doesn't it?
That said, how am I supposed to explain what I like best about this novel? It isn't really a rare thing that you can't get to the raw meat of the matter, is it? I mean, I've howled numerous times because of all the movie trailers that sank their claws into me and tore away right when I'm hooked. Oh, well. I guess I'll just have to close this review early, then.
Kiss of Death isn't really about a kiss of death. I've usually heard it in connection to vampires, and this isn't a vampire story. Still, I suppose that a kiss from the heart of this story could bring death to the recipient if he or she wasn't careful. But go and see for yourself, if you dare!
