Title: M.Y.T.H. Inc. in Action
Author: Robert Asprin
Publisher: Ace Books
Format: Paperback
Copyright Date: 1990

Guido and Nunzio, bodyguards to the Great Skeeve, were left behind while Skeeve headed to Perv to find his missing partner. In the meantime, the rest of M.Y.T.H. Inc.--Guido and Nunzio included--went to Possiltum to bring a halt to the machinations of Queen Hemlock, who killed her husband (the King of Possiltum) and sent her finger (along with the enchanted ring that Skeeve gave to her for the wedding) to the Bazaar on Deva where Skeeve and his friends were operating out of. Now, enlisted in the queen's army and trying to sabotage it from within, Guido and Nunzio have their work cut out for them. Because somehow the army's become mired in Possiltum, and it's causing all sorts of trouble as the soldiers become restless. Guido and Nunzio do their best, with occasional assists from their colleagues, but somehow all their efforts come to naught: instead of ruining the army, they somehow, despite all their efforts, manage to get things better organized than before. Is Guido ever going to get things going his way, that is, wrong?

M.Y.T.H. Inc. in Action once again removes the point of view from Skeeve and drops it squarely in Guido's lap. Guido does a good job of telling the story--allowing for his distinctive mode of speaking--and letting one and all know exactly how he feels about the assignment he's on. That means, of course, there's going to be a lot of humor in the telling, and not just because of the way everything seems to be backfiring on their efforts.

Maybe the best part of the story is how Guido manages to attract his own gang of misfits and eccentrics around him, each one loyal in his or her own way to Guido. It is highly reminiscent of the way Skeeve gathered his posse--that is, M.Y.T.H. Inc., for you newbies--around him. What is it about Skeeve that rubs off on everyone around him? He can make friends almost without trying, and somehow inspires their loyalty and trust even in the midst of an armed battle or the heart of enemy territory. And now Guido is somehow pulling of the same trick. All things considered, if Guido ever decided to quit being the bodyguard and aspire to a higher position on the totem pole, Skeeve would probably be in danger of losing his position as president of M.Y.T.H. Inc. Of course, Guido might get frustrated with everything going too right and storm out of their Bazaar headquarters.

M.Y.T.H. Inc. in Action...I just love these titles! Skeeve is most definitely missing in action, but M.Y.T.H. Inc. is also most definitely in action. Once again we get to see the coordinated efforts of this disparate but uniquely unified group working towards common goals and objectives. And of course, things are definitely going to go wrong. Want to see what happens? Read the book!

Rating: Thumbs up! Can M.Y.T.H. Inc. function without Skeeve in a matter that more or less started with him?
