That said, on to the review!
The Szgany of Sunside/Starside fought against the Wamphyri, finally destroying and banishing all but one with the aid of the Necroscope, the Dweller, and Lady Karen. There was peace, soon broken by the return of Shaitan the Unborn, who died when a dying Necroscope called up aid in two worlds to aid him. There was peace again, soon broken by the arrival of Wamphyri from distant Turgosheim, but they, too, were defeated when the new Necroscope, Nathan Keogh Kiklu, turned the world on its side and brought the sunlight to bear against his undead foes. There was peace again, and everyone thought it was the end of the Wamphyri threat. But with the shifting of the sun came the thawing of the Icelands, and the thawing of three Great Vampires who had been legends in their own time. They sought to establish a new reign of terror in Sunside/Starside, but Nathan Kiklu defeated them time and again, finally driving them out of the world...into the world of the original Necroscope! Now it's up to E-Branch to find a way to destroy these undying refugees from another world, or else the human race will cease to exist. But can they do it without the aid of a Necroscope to guide them? There's one possible hope...that the original Necroscope can train a replacement for him, in the ways of deadspeak as well as the Mobius Continuum. But is there enough time to do so?
All right! Another novel in the Necroscope series. True, Harry Keogh is dead, as is Harry Junior. And Nathan Kiklu dwells in another world entirely. But with Necroscope: Invaders we see that Harry Keogh, despite being dead and more than dead, is still determined to thwart his old enemies, the Wamphyri. And that means reaching out beyond the grave, beyond the boundaries of the universe, to lend a helping hand where it can be of greatest use. And that means another spectacular novel pitting mortals and more than mortals against the undead and the more than undead: the Wamphyri!
I think that this time it is the Wamphyri that command the greatest attention, even if E-Branch and its members receive the greater stage time. Honestly, though, having such names as "Malinari the Mind" or "Szwart" (whose name means "darkness") is a surefire way to latch onto the reader's attention. Furthermore, hearing the descriptions of them all--a mentalist to put Janos Ferenczy to shame, a metamorph gone wild to surpass even Eygor Killglance who is almost like a living patch of darkness--is sure to get you to read on. And just finding out how these two Great Vampires and their third, Vavara who scorns to be called "Lady", survived the final destruction of the Wamphyri is a definite way to lure readers back into the fold. Hey, what more is there to say?
Although it would be best to read all the other Necroscope books first, there's nothing that says you can't become a fan from starting here, with Necroscope: Invaders. All you have to do is give the book a chance and I'm sure you'll find it in your heart to go out and start at the beginning, simply because you'll want to know everything that came before!
