Title: Necroscope: Avengers
Author: Brian Lumley
Publisher: Tor Books
Format: Paperback
Copyright Date: 2001

With their deadly gardens laid waste and their plans ravaged beyond resurrection, the three Wamphyri refugees have had enough. Reluctantly reunited, they have turned their paths towards the only escape left to them: Perchorsk and the Gate waiting there. However, they aren't about to make things easy for their enemies. Jake Cutter, Ben Trask, and the rest of E-Branch have their hands full defusing vampiric threats clear across the continent, from a ship of ghouls in Greece to a band of vampires in Turkey, and other deaths all the way back to Russia. And that's not even counting the strange malaise that's spreading through England. What could it be? Maybe they weren't as successful as they thought in thwarting Lord Swartz' plans? But that's not the worst of it. Korath, Jake's unwanted mental resident, is taking a stronger hold on him, and it's tainting Jake's blue thread of fate, turning it red...or is there something more at work here?

Necroscope: Avengers wraps up and brings to an end the long and long Necroscope saga. It's fairly definitive as novels go, considering that it...well, I won't spoil it for you. But it is tempting to tell all. I mean, there's a specific point I want to talk about, but I can't do that without totaling giving the ending away.

Let me warn you here and now. If you've read any of the Necroscope books, then you know that happy endings are not likely to pass before your eyes. This last book is no different. As much as we might want a happy ending for the saga, I think we all know that it can't happen, at least not for everyone. In all honesty, the beginning of the book is already quite foreboding, what with an entire cruise ship falling prey to the three Wamphyri. Can you imagine, all those neophyte vampires docking someplace and running amok? Can you imagine the entire world dying beneath a blight of home-grown invaders like the Source World? Not a happy thought at all.

Necroscope: Avengers, as I said, is "THE END" to the saga, and that's that. As always, use caution in deciding whether to read it or not. If profanity, strong sexual content, blood, and killing disturb you, then don't pick up this book. You've been warned!

Rating:Thumbs up! It's time to decide the fate of the three Wamphyri...but is it too late?
