Title: War of Three Waters
Author: Douglas Niles
Publisher: Ace Books
Format: Paperback
Copyright Date: 1998

Long ago three great gods divided the world between them, erecting a great and vast watershed and distilling the liquid of the world into three different substances, each essence suitable to one of them. Then, the gods departed the mortal realm...all save one. Through trickery he remained behind, and through his vile machinations set out to conquer the world. The armies of the humans and the Faerines have united against this common threat, but the war is not going well. True, a cunning trick succeeding in drowning Lord Minion Nicodareus, the Eye of Dassadec, in Water, thereby destroying him. True, the god-forged sword, Lordsmiter, succeeded in slaying Lord Minion Phalthak, the Fang of Dassadec. True, the combined forces of the humans and Faerine have succeeded in stalling the advance of the armies of Lord Minion Reaper, the Talon of Dassadec.

However, though Phalthak died at Rudy's hands, Nicodareus did not, and now the fallen Lord Minion tunnels beneath the caverns of Agath-Trol, plotting revenge against the Man of Three Waters, Rudy Appenfell. Reaper, now the favored of Dassadec, has driven back the armies of humans and Faerines. To make matters worse, sickness ravages the human forces, resulting in a tremendous loss of manpower. The original breach of the Watershed in Halverica still allows minions to enter the lands of the humans. Most evil of all, a spring of Darkblood has emerged on the human side of the Watershed, and now sub-human monsters are spreading from the site, allying themselves with the minions of Duloth-Trol!

There is only one way to save the world: to destroy the Heart of Darkblood, Dassadec's vile heart and his sole link to the world. But to do so, Rudy and his friends must reach Agath-Trol and search the caverns beneath it. Such a task is easier said than done, for passage across the wastes of Duloth-Trol is treacherous and deadly, and travel on the oceans is no less secure. Rudy and his lady, Raine, must make the crossing, but there is always the threat of discovery by the minions. Rudy's niece, Anjell, and her friends must sail the seas, but the fatigue and lethargy that drains Rudy and Raine has a similar affect on the adults with her. Rudy and Raine have an unexpected companion in a High Guardian and Anjell has a strange friend in an sylvan child, but can even these allies help them against the very heart of evil and the Lord Minion that awaits them?

Douglas Niles has written numerous books for TSR, Inc., with titles in the Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms series. A Breach in the Watershed started the Watershed Trilogy, and Darkenheight continues it. This book concludes this epic set. It's an impressive work that will keep you reading until the very end.

Rating: Thumbs up! Here comes the titanic conclusion you've been waiting for!
