Poems by me:
Shadow Tail:
- Shadow Tail up in the Trees,
- Quite a site to see with ease.
- Under the bushes and through a log,
- Into bird-feeders and scolding at a dog.
- Ready to store any nuts he would find,
- Rodential teeth would give the food a grind.
- Everything about him is much a delight,
- Living in the trees day and night.
Ode to Scalisti (based on "Ode to Spot" by Brent Spiner)
- Glaucomys volans, is your taxonomic nomenclature,
- An endothermic quadroped, rodent by nature?
- Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
- Contribute to your gliding skills and natural defences.
- I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
- A singular development of squirrel communications.
- That obviates your basic hedenistic predilection,
- By the rhythmic twitching of your tail to demonstrate affection.
- A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents,
- You would not be so agile without its counterbalance.
- And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
- It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.
- Scalisti, the complex levels of behavior you display,
- Can note a fairly well-developed cognitive array,
- Although you are not sapient, squirrel, and do not comprehend,
- I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.
I found this cartoon of a woman with her pet squirrel, just to make this page more interesting.
