After launching the boat just north of Horseshooe Bay (sunset marina) off we went to explore the Howe sound area by boat. After cruising to Pam rocks, Anvil Island and many other places, we decided to set up our first night of camp on Gambier Island. We had to go far back so our camp wouldn't be washed away when the tide came in.
Looking out from our campsite on Gambier Island as the tide slowly comes in. You can see that the tide turns that little piece of land into an island at high tide. We went over in low tide and hung around suntanning for a while and almost had to swim back to our campsite!
Melinda and Mandy enjoying the quiet peace of wilderness camping. This Gambier Island dock was a great place to sit back and watch the huge ferries go by in the distance. Due to rough weather, we slept in the boat at this dock on one of the nights.
Melinda and Mandy at Plumper Cove Marine Park. This one was a little tricky to find but worth the effort. This set of islands faces the Georgia Straight and is a beauitiful place to visit. Very few people as access is by boat only. Lot's of trails for hiking and site seeing. We added this site to our GPS for future returns.
Plumper Cove Marine Park dock. You can see some other islands in the background. There was so much to explore in theis area by boat. Melinda and Mandy were just heading to were the boat was docked.
Beautiful Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver is a favorite place for us to visit on land. There are amazing trails through old growth forest leading to spectacular views of the ocean. This was our first time seeing it from the water. We were heading from Howe Sound into Vancouver by boat. Another first for us.
Looking at the city of Vancouver from around English Bay. We ended up going to coal harbour, then into false creek which was amazing. There were boats everywhere. It turns out that snow jam was on with some live bands performing. We anchored in an area where we could here the great live tunes and watch the snowboarders do their thing. Treble charger and swollen members were playing.
Another pic from False Creek. We think this may be GM Place but not sure. There is so much to do and see in False Creek. Grandville Island market is one of our favorites
Mandy sitting in her favorite spot on the boat. Lot's to look at as we get closer to the end of False Creek. You can just make out the unique shape of Science World.
Entering False Creek. You can see how crazy the boat traffic gets in here. Coming from the open ocean waters into this was like merging onto a busy highway, except in a boat! No brakes! We had these little water taxi boats cutting us off all day long. They have their schedule so get out of their way. That's when our airhorns come in handy!
