Are Wiccans Satanists?

The answer to this is an emphatic NO. Satanism is a completely separate and distinct religious system of it's own. I view it as a reactionary religion against the constraints and hypocrisies of Christianity. Satanism is a religion that emphasizes the importance of self over all else.

Let me emphasize having studied both Christianity and Satanism that I intend no disrespect to either, to those who have chosen these paths they are entirely valid.

The reason I want to make it very clear that Wicca is not the same religion as Satanism, is that far too frequently I and other Wiccans have been accused of "worshiping the devil" with all the negative connotations thrown in. In the past, this led tragically to torture, burnings, hangings and horrible persecution. We no longer fear these particular reprecussions as society has become more enlightened, but fear, prejudice and sometimes outright hatred still plague the Wiccan community. Wiccans are good, moral, upstanding people who worship Mother Earth, Nature, and a variety of other gods and goddesses of which Satan is NOT one. We don't believe in the concept of an incarnate diety of Evil. To put it in another light, Christians don't believe in Buddha, and so obviously don't worship Buddha. Wiccans don't believe in Satan either, and so obviously don't worship Satan.
