G: 1) Introdúcenos a lo que es actualmente Vaakevandring.
Paal: Mi nombre es Paal, y toco batería. Ronny es nuestro vocalista, Morten toca teclados, hace algo de canto limpio y es nuestro compositor principal. Alex es nuestro guitarrista y Trond toca el bajo. Tambien canta la primera voz en "Some Day" de nuestro demo. Solveig es nuestra sexta miembro. Canta algunas lineas y es la hermanita de Morten.

G: 1) Please introduce us to what is now Vaakevandring.
Paal: My name is Paal and I'm playing the drums. Ronny is our vocalist, Morten plays keyboards, does some clean singing and is our main-songwriter. Alex is our guitarplayer and Trond plays bass. He also sings lead voc. on "Some Day" from our demo. Solveig is our 6th member. She sings some lines and is Morten's little sister.

G: 2) ¿Que es exactamente Vaakevandring y porque eligieron este nombre?
Paal:Vaakevandring es noruego, y quiere decir algo como pasear (por la tierra) y despertar a la gente para el Señor, de su negación y sueño espritual. Lee Marcos 13:33-37.

G: 2) What exactly is Vaakervandring, and why did you choose that name?
Paal:Vaakevandring, you mean..he he he... It is Norwegian and means something like going around (on earth) and waking people up for the Lord from their denial and spiritual sleep. Read Mark. 13. 33-37

G: 3) El demo de ustedes posee grandes dosis de epic folck, lo que hace recordar a bandas como Dimmu Borgir, o a los movimientos odinistas. Pero ustedes no adoran a Odin ni a Thor, me pueden explicar la temática de sus líricas y a quien va dedicado su arte y por que?
Paal:Nosotros tocamos un estilo de black metal muy ambiental y melódico. Algunas personas nisiquiera lo consideran black metal. Nuestras letras son muy invitadoras a la vida Cristiana y a que Cristo entre en tu corazón. Son escritas desde el punto de vista personal más que referirse a versículos en la Biblia. Pero, por supuesto, igual son muy inspiradas en el Libro Santo. La primera canción en el demo es simplemente la Oración Modelo, y por supuesto, es tomada directamente de la Biblia. Oramos harto en los ensayos, rogando que el Espíritu Santo llene nuestra música, al igual que las letras.

G: 3) Your demo has a large dosage of epic folk, which makes one remember bands such as Dimmu Borgir or the Odin movement. But you don´t adore Odin or Thor, so could you give us an explanation of the theme of your lyrics and to whom your art is dedicated and why?
Paal:We play a very atmospheric and melodic kind of black metal. Some people don't even consider it black metal. Our lyrics are very invitable to the Christian life and to get Christ into your heart. They are written from a personal view more than refering to verses in the Bible. But ofcourse they are still very inspired of the Holy Book. The first song on the demo is simply the Lord's Prayer and is ofcourse taken straight from the Bible. We pray alot at rehearsals and pray that the Holy Spirit fills our music as well as the lyrics.

G: 4) Me imagino que las críticas a su demo deben haber sido excelentes, cuéntanos acerca de esto.
Paal: Sí, han sido bastantes asombrosas, por lo menos en los medios Cristianos, aunque no estamos muy satisfechos con esa grabación. No la mandamos a más de dos lugares seculares aquí en Noruega, y en uno de ellos recibimos 4 de los 6 puntos. Está bien, yo creo.

G: 4) I imagine that the critiques of your demo must have been excellent. Tell us about them.
Paal: Yeah, they have been quite overwhelming at least in Christian media, even though we are not very satisfied with that recording. We didn't send it to more than 2 secular places here in Norway, and in one of them we got 4 out of 6 points. It is okay, I think.

G: 5) Con respecto a su demo, muchos rumores han salido de su relación con Stian Aarstad. Me gustaria que explicaras tu mismo como se contactaron con él, como llegaron a un acuerdo en la mezcla del disco, que piensa él de lo que ustedes hacen y de sus liricas.
Paal: Lo que es chistoso, es que fue él quien nos contactó después de una tocata que hicimos, y él quería que fuéramos a su estudio para hacer una grabación. ¡Y por supuesto aceptamos! Habíamos tenido contacto con él un par de veces antes de eso. Fue super rico trabajar con él, y no le importó para nada que fuéramos Cristianos.

G: 5) In relation to your demo, a lot a rumors have come out about Stian Aarstad. We would like for you to tell us yourself how you contacted him, how you came to an agreement about the mixing of the record, and what he thinks about your lyrics and what you do.
Paal: The funny thing is that it was he that contacted us after a gig we played and he wanted us to come to his studio to do a recording. And ofcourse we accepted!!! We had been in touch with him a couple of times before that. It was cool to work withm him and he didn't care at all that we were Christians.

G: 6) Noruega es famosa en todo el mundo por la filosofa pagana de muchas de sus bandas (como Burzum, Storm o Immortal), quienes intentan volver al paganismo de sus antepasados vikingos. ¿que opinas de esto?
Paal: Es tan triste, con toda esa gente cegada. Yo creo que quizás el interés por el satanismo y paganismo era más fuerte hace unos 5, 6 ó 7 años atrás, porque en estos días es más aceptado acá en la escena metálica cantar de otras cosas también.

G: 6) Norway is famous all over the world for the pagan philosophy held by many of it´s bands (such as Burzum, Storm or Immortal), who try to return to the paganism of their Viking ancestors. What do you think about that?
Paal: It is so sad with all those blinded people. I think perhaps the interest for satanism and paganism was stronger like a 5-6 seven years ago, because these days it is more accepted in the metal scene here to sing about other things also.

G: 7) ¿Estas de acuerdo con el racismo expresado por algunas bandas de tu país?, (como Burzum). ¿por que?
Paal: ¡No, por supuesto que no! ¡El racismo es puramente diabólico! ¡Suficiente con lo dicho! Jesús dijo que amáramos a nuestro vecino, ¿verdad?

G: 7) Are you in agreement with the racism expressed by some of your country´s bands (like Burzum)? Why?
Paal: No, ofcourse not! Racism is purely from the devil! Enough said! Jesus said love your neighbour, right?

G: 8) Por lo demas, ¿que piensas de lo que sucedió en tu país en el año 91 con el "Inner Circle"?
Paal: Bueno, primero tendría que decir que todo fue totalmente desproporcionado en los medios [de comunicación]. Aquí, nadie ni siquiera escuchó algo acerca de un supuesto "Círculo Interior". Lo que pasó nunca fue, en ninguna manera, una amenaza para la Iglesia. Yo leí en alguna parte que un montón de Cristianos fueron muertos por unos enloquecidos [adeptos del] black metal. ¡Eso no es verdad! Sólo se mataron unos a otros. Eso también, por supuesto, es muy triste, y quemaron muchas Iglesias. Más o menos 50, yo creo. De nuevo, es muy triste que el diablo se pueda meter en las mentes jóvenes, contaminarlas y empujarlos a hacer cosas como esas.

G: 8) Besides that, what do you think about what happened in your country in 1991 with the "Inner Circle"?
Paal: Well, first I will have to say that this was so blown up in the medias. No one even heard about a so called "Inner Circle" here, and the stuff that happened was never a threat to the Church at all. I read somewhere that alot of Christians were killed of crazy black metal people. Not true at all! They just killed each other... That is ofcourse very sad also, and alot of Churches were burned down. Around 50 I think. Again it is very sad that the devil can get into young minds with pollutiona and drive them to do things like this.

G: 9) ¿Crees que black metal es una etiqueta apropiada para una banda cristiana? ¿no es tan absurdo como parece?
Paal: No creo que sea más absurdo que música heavy metal, death metal, punk o rock Cristiano, para el caso. Para ser sincero, no me importa etiquetar la música, pero en realidad no nos llamamos black en círculos seculares porque muchas personas piensan que black metal es más que simplemente música. Sé que Antestor quiere ser llamado "sorrow metal" (metal de lamentación). Tú sabes, solo tratando de crear algo nuevo.

G: 9) Do you think that black metal is an appropriate label for a Christian band? Is it not as absurd as it appears?
Paal: I don't think it is more absurd that Christian heavy, death metal, punk or rock music for that sake... To be honest, I really don't care about labeling music, but we actually don't call ourselves black in secular circles because alot of people think black metal is more than just music. I know that Antestor wants to be called "sorrow metal". You know, just trying to create a new thing.

G: 10) ¿Que opinas con respecto a la war/corspe paint [pintura de guerra/cadáver] en los músicos cristianos? ¿se esta copiando la postura de los guerreros de Satanás?
Paal: Creo que está bien, si tú crees que está bien. Para Vaakevandring, nunca ha sido un problema porque nunca nos ha gustado. Yo lo veo más como para usar efectos teatrales. Igual que usar ropa negra o clavos [puas], etc.

G: 10) What is your opinion about the war/corpse paint used by Christian musicians? Are they imitating the style of Satanic warriors?
Paal: I think it is ok if you fell it is ok. For Vaakevandring it has never been an issue because we have never been into it. I see it more like using theatric effects. Just like wearing black clothes, using spikes as so on.

G: 11) Dame tu opinión de las siguientes bandas: VARDOGER, MYRKHEIM, MORTIIS, BURZUM, HORDE.
Paal: VARDOGER: Una banda muy interestante. Desafortunadamente, ya no existen. Podrían haber sido la nueva esperanza....
MYRKHEIM: Buen amigo mío. Toca black metal inspirado en salmos noruegos.
MORTIIS: Aburrido .... No lo he escuchado mucho, eso si...
BURZUM: Bueno, ¿Qué puedo decir? ¿Una historia trágica? Escuché un poco de su primer album unos 10 años atrás, pero realmente es bastante malo...
HORDE: Empezó todo el estilo "unBlack metal". Me encantó su CD cuando salió, y me dio pena cuando el siguiente CD nunca llegó.....

G: 11) Give me your opinion about the following bands:
Paal: VARDOGER: very interesting band. Unfortunately they don't exist anymore. They could have been the new hope...
MYRKHEIM: Good friend of mine. Playing black metal inspired from old Norwegian psalms.
MORTIIS: Boring.. Haven't heard much, though....
BURZUM: Well, what can I say. Tragic story? I listened a bit to his first album 10 years ago, but it is acutally very bad...
HORDE: Starting the whole "unBlack metal" hype.. I loved the CD when it was released, and was sad when the follow-up CD never came...

G: 12) En la compilación "In the shadow of death" ustedes participaron con un tema llamado "fall of man", que es mucho más extremo que las canciones de su demo. ¿El sonido de vaakevandring va orientado actualmente hacia algo más extremo? ¿Se puede esperar para las futuras producciones un sonido en la linea de "fall of man"?
Paal: Creo que puedes esperar más variedad en el futuro. Nos encanta "Fall of Man", y tambien nos gusta mucho lo ambiental y más lento, así que vamos a hacer canciones y crecer en ambas direcciones. Ambiental y brutal.

G: 12) In the compilation of "In the Shadow of Death", you participated with a song called "Fall of Man" that is much more extreme than the songs on your demo. Is the sound of Vaakevandring actually oriented toward something more extreme? Should we expect future productions to be more along the line of "Fall of Man"?
Paal: I think you can expect more variety in the future. We love Fall Of Man, and we also love the very atmospheric and slower stuff, so we are going to make songs and grow in both directions. Atmospheric and brutal.

G: 13) Luego de esta compilación, ¿tienen algún proyecto cercano o a futuro?
Paal: No en el futuro cercano, me temo. Pero, empezamos a conversar sobre un CD completo. Esperamos, por lo menos, comenzar grabaciones este año, pero tenemos que encontrar un sello para lanzarlo, porque no podemos costearlo nosotros mismos. En este instante, estamos muy ocupados componiendo canciones.

G: 13) After this compilation, do you have another proyect in the making for the near future, or more in the distant future?
Paal: Not in the near future, I'm afraid. But we have started talking about a full length CD. We hope to at least start recordings this year, but we have to find a label to release it also as we can not afford to it ourselves. At this moment we are very busy writing songs.

G: 14) En un país con tantas bandas, ¿como es la relación entre bandas cristianas y seculares?
Paal: No tenemos mucho contacto con la escena secular. Desafortunadamente, podría agregar. Pero Extol es aceptado donde vaya porque son muy buenos músicos, y nunca han sido "black metal"... En los tiempos antigüos, todo lo que fuese Cristiano fue odiado en [el ambiente] metal. Antestor, especialmente, recibió amenzas de muerte y cosas así.

G: 14) In a country with so many bands, what is the relationship between those that are Christian and those that are secular?
Paal: We don't have much contact with the secular scene. Unfortunately, I might add. But Extol is very much accepted anywhere because they are very good musicians and that they have never been "black metal"... In the older days, everything Christian was hated in metal. Especially Antestor got some death-treats and stuff.

G: 15) Específicamente, ¿como es la relación de Vaakevandring con Antestor?
Paal: En este momento, Ronny y Morten tocan en ambas bandas. (Voces y teclados) Y somos, por supuesto, muy buenos amigos. Sí, y Vemod, de Antestor, tocó guitarra en algunas partes en "Fall of Man".

G: 15) Specifically, how is the relationship between Vaakevandring and Antestor?
Paal: Ronny and Morten are playing in both bands at the moment. (Vocals and keyboards) And we are ofcourse very good friends. Yes, and Vemod from Antestor played some guitar parts on "Fall Of Man".

G: 16) Finalmente, algún comentario y donde pueden contactarlos los interesados en sus demos.
