Uilleam MacAllister united half the Clans several hundred years ago,
but he was neither strong enough nor long-lived enough to gain any more
to his cause. After his death, the alliance fell apart amonst petty bickering.
Donall ap Dougal was born to the MacDougals over three hundred years
ago. The highlands were full of separate tribes then, some warlike, others
peaceful. The lands were protected by the Blackthorn Knights at the time,
but there were not many of them at the time. They had already started their
decline. Young Donall travelled the land with a band of adventurers, helping
the various Clans, villages and towns. He founded Caermor on the strength
of his aid. The chiefs of the most powerful Clans were named Dukes, and
the leaders of towns and villages were named Barons.
Not long after the kingdom was founded, the Nordmanni attacked from
the north. This war began in infamy as the fabled Blackthorn Knights neglected
their sworn duties and did not come to the aid of the people. They disbanded
in disgrace, and King Donall I led his army and stopped the invasion.
King Donall VIII put down a rebellion by the Dukes SrathMor and Ostaig.
The two were removed and beheaded, the titles going to others.
Formorii have attacked twice in the past few decades. During the second
incursion, Marquess Brandubh of Mhearaig (MAIR-ock) held the Nevis Pass
at Kendall Keep for two weeks against several thousand orcs until reinforcements
arrived from Duke AonachMor. He is hailed as a hero throughout the land.
Ailean I died, leaving no heirs in his line, and was succeeded by his nephew Fehrghas MacSuaine only 5 years ago. Even more recently, bandits have been rumored to be attacking caravans and travellers. And there are reports of the Formorii growing restless again.
