Lt. Commander Jadzia Dax

Jadzia grew up on the planet of Trill and studied in such fields as astrophysics, zoology and exobiology with the hope that she could become a joined Trill. She had always wanted to be joined ever since she was a child and her dream came true in 2367 when she was joined with Dax. Dax had many previous hosts most recently Curson Dax who was a very good friend of Sisko.

Jadzia Dax was assigned to Deep Space Nine in 2369 as a science officer. In that same year, Dax and Sisko discovered the Bajoran Wormhole a link to the Gamma Quadrant.

Being an attractive woman, the relationship between Dax and Sisko became a little akward. However, Sisko remained simply a friend to Jadzia who he sometimes calls "old man" in reference to Curson.

Major Kira Nerys

Before the Cardassian withdrawal from Bajor Kira acted as a fierce freedom fighter since she was twelve. After the withdrawal and the enlistment of Federation help, Kira was assigned to Deep Space Nine as a representative of her people. She had always been against the Federation help and especially suspicious of Sisko. However eventually she has learned to trust Sisko and now respects him as a leader and friend.

A strict follower of the Bajoran faith, Kira went down to Bajor several times to meditate at the monasteries. While meditating Kira met Vedek Bareil whom she became attracted to. The relationship however did not last long and was sadly terminated when Bareil died on DS9 under suspicious circumstances.

When Kai Opaka was killed in the Gamma quadrant a struggle began as to who would become Bajor's new spiritual and political leader. Kira became an especially strong voice against Vedek Winn's corrupt political strategy. Bareil was almost killed by an assassin on DS9 after Winn started preaching against the scientific teachings of the Wormhole almost starting an uprising on DS9. Winn's strongest competitor, Vedek Bareil, was finally killed from a poison which destroyed his brain supposedly given to him by one of Winn's co-conspirators.

Lt. Commander Worf

After serving on the Enterprise, Worf was transferred to Deep Space Nine to serve as a negotiator between the Klingon empire and the Federation because tensions were building up along the Klingon-Federation border. He was promoted to the rank of Lt. Commander during the transfer. When Gowron dissolved the Treaty of Alliance, Worf became a renegade of his people. He was asked by Gowron if he would join the Klingons fight against the Federation. When Worf refused, Gowron dismissed him as a disgrace to the Klingon people. A battle ensued with DS9 and several hundred Klingon war ships in which Worf showed his courage and devotion to the Federation.

Also see Lt. Worf for background information of his past and his experiences aboard the Enterprise.

Constable Odo

Odo is the chief of security and a member of the species now known as the Founders of the Dominion. Originally, Odo was found in the Donorias belt as an infant and for a most of his life he did not know where he came from. He was studied in laboratory by a scientist on Bojor whom he patterns his hair after. His shape-shifting capability left him an outcast as a child and he often changed himself into objects with the hope to gain friends.

When Odo finally met his people on a remote planet in the Gamma Quadrant he was tempted to join his people rather than return to DS9. However, when Odo learned of the mischievious plot of the Dominion to invade the Alpha Quadrant he left his people and returned to DS9. When a shape-shifting agent infiltrated DS9 at one point Odo had to choose to be with the Dominon or against it. After refusing, a fight ensued ending with the death of the Dominion agent. The act caused Odo to become the enemy of the Founders who had been proud of the fact that no shape shifter had ever killed another in their history.

Although Odo is regarded has a highly resourseful and skillful officer aboard DS9, because of the atrocities committed by his people, outside of the Bajoran system Odo is simply regarded as just another shapeshifter. The nervousnes of other species can clearly be felt whenever the talk to Odo. However Odo soon proves he does not have the intentions of the founders and is quickly accepted by thouse who doubt of his abilities or beliefs.

Dr. Julian Bashier

Dr. Julian Bashier, the brash young Lt. from Earth came to DS9 under his own will. Graduating second in his class because he mistook a pre-ganglionic nerve with a post-ganglionic fiber, Bashier had the choice to pick any assignment in the federation. He chose DS9 because of he wanted an assignment that would put him out on the 'frontier' where he could preform 'frontier' medicine.

Clearly, Bashier was attracted to Dax during the beginning of his assignment to DS9. However now Bashier has gone away from physical lust and now Bashier and Jadzia have become close friends. An awkward time came for Bashier during "If Wishes Were Horses" in which alies took a representation of a wish. In Bashier's case it was Jadzia and thorughout the episode Bashier was followed around by an alien Jadzia who had the same feelings for Bashier as he did for her.

Chief Miles O'Brien

O'Brien transferred to DS9 from the Enterprise as one of the first Starfleet officers. He moved with his wife Keiko who was not very pleased with the conditions. In subsequent episodes, Keikoe started a school which was later ostrocized by the Bajoran religious leader Vedek Winn (now Kai Winn). Since Keiko enjoyed botany so much, she studied on Bajor for a year conducting surveys with other scientists and her daughter Molly.

As a skillful technician aboard the Enterprise and DS9 O'Brien often is needed and comes in handy. O'Brien has most shown his value during the first several months on DS9. After the Cardassian withdrawl, they left the station in ruins. Every valuable part was taken and many of the essential systems were offline. However using his ingenuity and expertiece, O'Brien was able to bring the station in working order quickly.
